Smartphone Love: Man Marries His Smartphone In Las Vegas [Video]

In these technologically advanced days, people are very attached to their smartphones, but in what can be taken as smartphone love, one man actually took things a step further.

We’re all used to what the Germans call “smombies,” those who are so addicted by their smartphones they barely look up when walking in the streets. No longer merely a phone, smartphones have become our source of entertainment, music, news, emails, and constant neverending text and WhatsApp messages.

One guy decided to make what could be called a bold statement about his smartphone love, or could alternatively be called just plain crazy. He married the thing, and in Las Vegas of all places.

If you can imagine someone saying, “I now pronounce you husband and smartphone,” then you can imagine Aaron Chervenak, 34, a resident of Los Angeles, who recently celebrated such a wedding at a chapel in Las Vegas.

As reported by the Daily Mail, Chervenak tied the knot with his iPhone and the whole event was documented on video by Kaspersky Labs and uploaded to YouTube.

In the video, included above, we hear Chervenak speaking fondly of the role smartphones play in all our lives, which in his mind mimics our relationships with real people.

“If we’re going to be honest with ourselves, we connect with our phones on so many emotional levels,” he said. “We look to it for solace, to calm us down, to put us to sleep, to ease our minds. To me, that’s what a relationship is about so in a sense, my smartphone has been my longest relationship.”

“That’s why I decided to see what it was like to actually marry a phone.”

It might sound just a little weird, but he went ahead and did just that. It turns out it wasn’t too hard to find a chapel in Las Vegas to perform the nuptials (hey it’s Las Vegas, they’re into all sorts of unusual weddings), so he dressed up smartly in a tuxedo and got ready to be wed.

He drove to the Little Vegas Chapel in a pink Cadillac where the love of his life, his smartphone, was waiting for him.

The wording was pretty much the same as any ceremony held in a wedding chapel, but in this case, it ended up with Chervenak placing the ring, which was actually attached to his phone, on to his finger as the loving couple were pronounced husband and smartphone.

Amazingly, there were even witnesses present at the loving union, and at least one of whom captured the event on, well, a smartphone.

Of course, as Chervenak points out in the video, a marriage of this kind is not legally binding. One can only imagine him facing divorce when a new and younger model came out. Smartphone love probably can’t take too many upgrades.

However, Chervenak, who works as a director in Los Angeles, said his marriage was merely a “symbolic gesture to show how precious our smartphones are becoming.”

“I’m trying to ask the hard questions as to what this relationship means,” he said. “I’m trying to go as far as I can to explore that.”

Hopefully, this won’t give everyone the idea that their ideal partner for life is the piece of technology snugly held in their hand.
