‘BioShock Collection’ Adds To Growing List Of PS4, Xbox One Remasters To Come

BioShock Collection is the latest in a long line of remasters, 2K Games confirmed. For many, this is great news, as 2016 is becoming a year for a lot of PS4 and Xbox One remasters.

BioShock was initially released in 2008 and drew attention from an unusual gathering of gamers. It had mostly claustrophobic linear level design, but the options to get through them varied greatly. 2K Games’ killer IP gave us the option of whether or not we wanted to fight the armored juggernauts we knew as Big Daddy. This monster was introduced in such a way that it made you feel almost suicidal trying to take it out. One hit from its arm drill and you would end up like the guy you saw try to kidnap a “little sister.” The incentive to try came from the fact that those little girls carried Adam, an invaluable resource which turned you into a walking superhero by the end of the game.

This risk carried through most of the trilogy, which as a whole acts like a looping story. The end of BioShock Infinite is actually leading up to the beginning of the first game.

The BioShock Collection is coming to consoles on PC, PS4, and Xbox One as remasters on September 13.

Another long-awaited remaster possibly arriving on consoles this year is Batman: Return to Arkham. The first hugely successful story-based superhero video game series saw its final installment in 2015 with Arkham Knight, and you won’t need the previous consoles to play Rocksteady’s full series when the remasters eventually release. The series is acclaimed for its ability to make you feel like you are in the cape and cowl, stopping crime and solving Nygma’s endless riddles. Sadly, it has been delayed indefinitely.

Eventually, much like the BioShock Collection, you’ll be able to do it all again with updated visuals optimized for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Already this year, we saw the Dead Island Definitive Collection, which you can buy all together for $40 or digitally separate for $20 each through Xbox Live or PSN. It includes the genre-defining RPG first-person shooter gameplay of Dead Island, its follow-up Riptide, and an endless runner mobile-style game if you buy them together. The game is known for its tendency to be tough as nails until you understand the mechanics and progress through the story enough to take advantage of some handy exploits.

Again, like the BioShock Collection, Dead Island Definitive Collection was remastered to look better than it originally did. Also, it’s not a game for the squeamish as it has plenty of gory violence and cursing.

One which has been a rumor for a while now is the Assassin’s Creed Collection. Ubisoft had bought the domain name for it and for now, it appears to be a set of figurines, much like you saw in the Abstergo cubicles in Black Flag and Rogue. Each one apparently comes with a booklet, and there appears to be a binder for these booklets and a display case for the figurines. There is even a tankard if you want to enjoy your drinks like Edward Kenway.

There doesn’t appear to be any plans to re-release the series in high definition like the BioShock Collection, though. You can always leave them a message on the site suggesting it, and they will apparently email you with a response.

Considering how often Ubisoft seems to ignore tweets sent their way, it might be some comfort to receive a personal reply.

Alongside the BioShock Collection, which PC, PS4, and Xbox One remasters are you most excited about?
