Kishou Arima, renowned Special Class Ghoul Investigator and CCG’s Reaper, has just died and everybody is left with a loose end. Should the human race just back down since their strongest champions were getting put down one after the other? How should they fight back?

***Please note that this article includes major spoilers about the latest Tokyo Ghoul comic release and the upcoming anime episodes.***

In the latest chapter of Tokyo Ghoul, the entire CCG bureau is looking for ways to defeat the ghouls. However, instead of finding new strategies for everyone, the story took a quick turn.

Itsuki Marude, a Ghoul Investigator and Division II Chief, has been asked to meet with Tsuneyoshi Washuu. He was reprimanded by the Chairman because of the unproductive results of his project on pursuing the Aogiri Tree.

After being scolded by the boss, he went out to talk to Yoshitoki Washuu to get more information about the case. He was then seen talking to Hideyoshi Nagachika who was said to be a key person in getting proper information about the 11th Ward Base. After assessing the scenario, Marude decides that he would put Hide to work with Amon and Akira Mado.

Marude has come across a special book during his investigation, the “King Beileygr,” the 10th and final work of Sen Takatsuki. The book is a heroic drama about a one-eyed ghoul known as “Nameless.” In the book, the villains were referred to as a corrupt human organization secretly operating with ghouls to control the world.

The plot of the story should have been seen as fictional for Marude, but after confusing encounters with the different Washuu clan members, he began to have doubts.

As his curiosity grew, Marude took the time to find more proof to his theory—that this is not just some fairy tale and that the Washuu clan is somehow involved in this conspiracy.

Marude then found a way to look at the Rc Scan Gate, a security device used to measure the level of Rc cells of everyone. Rc cells are said to be an identifying factor for ghouls. The Rc Scan Gates look like a standard metal detector in malls and everyone who passes through the bureau is scanned by the gate. The scanner can only detect a normal range level for ghouls, which is 1000 above. If it detects and Rc level that high, the alarm would be triggered and the person would be identified as a ghoul.

However, the Rc Scan Gates might not be as effective as it claimes to be because Eto and Ken Kaneki have both passed through the gates before without triggering the alarm. Eto noted that the gates could miss some Rc cell patterns.

This fact has become a lot more interesting for Marude because for the gate to have an exemption like that, it has to be configured by the higher ups. Though Eto said that this was edited so ghouls affiliated with V could pass, Marude has found out that there were certain people that caused Rc cell spikes but did not trigger the gate.

When Marude finally confronted Yoshitoki Washuu about his findings, he was ignored. He then shot Yoshitoki in the head to see if he would come back to life. If he dies, it would just be murder, at least he hoped it would just be that.

Major Spoiler Up Ahead

But it was not. Marude opens up his eyes again to check if the deed ended with just blood splattered all over the floor. Then, he saw Yoshitoki heading towards him with active kakugan. His thoughts flashed back to when he met his mentor for the first time, then realized everything has been a lie.

The truth? The entire Washuu clan, head and founders of the entire bureau, are all ghouls.
