Disney Characters Become A Part Of ‘Game Of Thrones’ Thanks To Re-Imagining By Artist Sam Tsui

When people are asked what they think about the topic of Disney, they usually think of wishes and dreams coming true, fairy tale-style happy endings, and joy and entertainment the whole family would cherish. This is often seen in their plethora of animated movies. This is especially true for movies made by Walt Disney Animation Studios, famous for Frozen, Zootopia, and the upcoming Moana. To this day, many of the movie line’s characters — Snow White (Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs), Ariel (The Little Mermaid), Belle and the Beast (Beauty and the Beast), Simba (The Lion King), Rapunzel and Flynn Rider (Tangled), Ralph (Wreck-It Ralph), Anna and Elsa (Frozen), Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde (Zootopia), and many others — are remembered.

Because of the iconic status most characters created by Walt Disney Animation Studios have, many artists often use them to re-imagine them in their own artistic twist. For example, Andrew Tarusov gave the Disney Princesses a “sexy makeover,” turning them into racy, vintage pin-up models. Now another artist, Sam Tsui, is getting a lot of attention among Disney fans and the art community for turning Disney characters into characters for a popular series known for big battles, murder, love, sex, and every other decadent transgression known to mankind, all set in Westeros. That’s right, Sam Tsui just made Disney characters a part of Game of Thrones.

Apparently, the idea of making iconic Disney characters from Walt Disney Animation Studios into characters for Game of Thrones was an idea Sam Tsui had “a little while back.” His official DeviantArt page featuring all the Disney characters he already made into Game of Thrones characters in one picture has a statement in which he says it was a “little pet project” of his.

“Both the world of Disney Princesses and Game of Thrones have become so culturally pervasive, and feature such a diverse cast of ladies, it seemed crazy to me that this hadn’t yet been done!”

As seen in the preview provided on said page, the Disney characters already featured as Game of Thrones characters include Ariel from The Little Mermaid; Mulan, Mushu, and Grandma Fa from Mulan; Jasmine from Aladdin; Belle from Beauty and the Beast; Snow White from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs; Rapunzel from Tangled; Cinderella from Cinderella; Aurora from Sleeping Beauty; Merida from Brave; Lilo from Lilo and Stitch; Tiana from The Princess and the Frog; and Elsa from Frozen.

Four of the Disney characters as Game of Thrones characters are featured in the gallery below. The rest of the characters can be viewed on Sam Tsui’s official deviantART.

At first glance, most people would think the creations inspired from the genius of Walt Disney would have no place in the world inspired by George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire. Yet, they have more similarities than most expect. Chip Chick reports that Disney’s films will have its share of treachery, intrigue, and heartbreaking deaths that are on average with Game of Thrones. As an example of the latter, all one has to do is compare Mufasa and Ned Stark’s death. Though how they both died differs, their deaths do pull on heartstrings. In some ways, Disney can be more ruthless than anything George R.R. Martin can think of. For example, some people, including Disney fans, think animators had to be “on something” to create the drunk scene in Dumbo or anything in any of the Fantasia films.
