NBA: Cleveland Cavaliers Star LeBron James Officially Becomes A Free Agent


LeBron James led the Cleveland Cavaliers to win their first NBA Championship in the history of the team. Now that the season is officially over, free agency is right around the corner. Many players around the league are now announcing if they will become free agents. According to ESPN, James has notified the Cavaliers that he will opt out of his current contract and become a free agent.

The Cleveland Cavaliers selected LeBron James with the first overall pick in the 2003 NBA Draft. They selected James with the hopes he would become the face of their franchise. He did just that for the Cavaliers. James built up an amazing resume since joining the league.

LeBron James won the NBA Championship three times in his career. He won the Most Valuable Player of the Year Award four times. James has been voted on to the All Star team 12 times. He has been selected on to the All NBA First Team ten times. The former MVP is the Cleveland Cavaliers all-time leading scorer.

During his first free agency, LeBron James decided to leave the Cleveland Cavaliers to join the Miami Heat. He decided to join the Heat alongside Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade to form a big three. They won back to back NBA Championships. James’ main goal was to win a title, and he did just that.

LeBron James spent four years with the Miami Heat. He helped them get to the NBA Finals four consecutive years. After his fourth season with the Heat, James became a free agent once again. He decided to rejoin the Cleveland Cavaliers. The All Star signed a two-year deal worth $42 million. James’ main goal was to bring a title to the city.

The Cleveland Cavaliers formed their own big three with LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love. In their first season together, they made it to the NBA Finals. Both Irving and Love went down with injuries. The Cavaliers ultimately lost to the Golden State Warriors.

Coming into last season, the Cleveland Cavaliers had high hopes of winning an NBA Championship. The team decided to fire head coach David Blatt mid-way through the season. Tyronn Lue took over as the new head coach.

The Cleveland Cavaliers had the best record in the Eastern Conference. They defeated the Detroit Pistons, Atlanta Hawks and Toronto Raptors to reach the NBA Finals. It was a rematch from last year’s Finals.

LeBron James led the Cleveland Cavaliers to win their first ever NBA Championship. It was the city’s first professional sports title in 52 years. James won the finals MVP. He averaged 29.7 points, 11.3 rebounds, 8.9 assists, 2.6 steals and 2.3 blocks in 42 minutes.

LeBron James stated after winning the NBA Finals that he has no intentions of leaving in free agency. The question now is how many years will James sign for. Some people are expecting him to sign a one year deal.

If LeBron James does decide to sign a one year deal, he could be in line for a mega deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers in the summer of 2017. The deal could be worth up to $200 million. James would be the first $200 million man and the highest paid player for a single season in the NBA.

From the looks of it, LeBron James will be resigning with the Cleveland Cavaliers this summer. He could be signing a one year deal so he can get more money in 2017. James is hoping to bring another title to the city. The Cavaliers are playing at an elite level right now. Keeping James and the roster intact would be a wise decision.
