Mark Teixeira was robbed of a potential game winning play and he’s voicing his discontent openly. The New York Yankees first baseman clearly beat a relay throw on Friday but was called out. That clearly incorrect call left the tying run at third in the Yankees 5-4 loss to the Orioles on Friday and following a replay he questioned the integrity of the umpire crew.

“Sometimes you wonder if the umpires are just trying to get out of there,” said Teixeira. “They don’t want you to make a comeback. They want to go home because those were terrible calls. It is what it is. We are out there fighting. I’m out there playing on one leg. I wish it had gone my way.”

Teixeira had argued with home-plate umpire Cory Blaser about a 3-2 pitch call in the eighth which he claimed was “five or six inches outside.” Following that run-in with the officiating staff he was called out by first-base umpire Jerry Meals to end the game, a call that Teixeira ended with a simple statement:

“You got me again.”

After calling out the umpired Teixeira admitted that his comments will probably land him in trouble, noting:

“I’m probably going to get fined. But I don’t care, really. I’m out there fighting. We are out there fighting. When you are battling like we are battling and they can’t get a call right, that pisses you off. It really does.”

Teixeira was returning after 10-games missed due to a calf injury. When asked about his head first dive into first Teixeira said:

“I don’t think I’ve ever dove into first base in my life. I couldn’t get there running. I did my best. I got there, but the call didn’t go our way.”

Mark Teixeira was not the only Yankee to criticize play calling during the game, Manager Joe Girardi added:

“He was clearly safe. Jerry missed it. You hate to lose a game that way, but he missed it.”

The loss now places the Yankees and Orioles in a first place tie atop the AL East.
