Elvis Presley’s personal bible, which is inscribed with his name and includes notes written by the King of Rock himself, has sold for $94,000 at auction in Greater Manchester.

The bible, which was given to Elvis during his first Christmas at his Graceland home in 1957, includes 1,600 pages, many of which include annotations from the singer.

The book was given to Elvis by his Uncle Vester and Aunt Clettes.

Speaking of the auction, which included more than 100 pieces of Elvis memorabilia, auctioneer Karen Fairweather told the BBC:

“It was a really exciting atmosphere in the room, we had 300 people and there was bidding online and on the telephone across the world.”

When the bible’s pricing continues to rise:

“You could hear a pin drop when it sold for that price.”

“There were three rival bidders on the phone and once it got over £20,000 each bid was taking a while, because they each had a price in mind for the bible and they were thinking about it.”

“There was a round of applause when the hammer went down. It was incredible.”

The bible wasn’t the only item to raise some eyebrows; a stained pair of the Kings underwear also reached £5,000, although the reserve was set at £7,000. Other items sold at lower prices after meeting their initial reserve.

The winning bidder has not disclosed their identity, but the auctions owner described himself as an American living in the UK.
