Britney Spears Sampling Justin Timberlake’s ‘Cry Me A River’ In New Single ‘Make Me (Oooh)?’

Reports are claiming that Britney Spears could be taking aim at Justin Timberlake in her new single “Make Me (Oooh).”

The speculation that Spears could be referencing her past romance with Justin in the song first began after PopJustice tweeted out to Britney’s publicist on June 26, “When’s the Britney single out?”

The social media account then followed up the initial tweet by asking, “Has it still got the ‘Cry Me A River’ sample in it?” referencing the 2002 single by Justin largely speculated to be about his and Britney’s break-up, in which Timberlake alluded to the fact that Spears may have cheated during their almost 3-year romance.

The tweet has since been deleted, though the message got fans speculating that Britney could be ready to take aim at her ex with her new single, which is thought to be released next month.

Following the tweet, Oh No They Didn’t added fuel to the Britney diss fire, claiming that “Britney was pictured destroying a house while filming her upcoming music video” for the song, which was shot several weeks ago, suggesting that the song is in fact a breakup anthem.

The site then went on to report that Spears was also seen “wearing an all denim outfit” during the video shoot, which could suggest that Britney is referencing the matching all-denim ensembles she and Justin wore to walk the red carpet at the 2001 American Music Awards.

A number of Britney fans also took to social media to speculate on whether Spears could be ready to get her revenge on Spears, despite the twosome splitting way back in 2002.

“There are rumors that ‘Make Me (Oooh)’ will sample Timberlake’s ‘Cry Me A River’ and be a diss track!” @BritneySources tweeted out in regard to the speculation, while Twitter user @m1ssRISS wrote on the social media site, “Wait britney used justin’s cry me a river as a sample… Super Late pettiness.”

Britney Spears fan @Britsanity then added, “It would be legendary if Britney’s single had a ‘Cry Me A River’ sample.”

But before Britney and Justin fans get too excited, Gossip Cop is busting the speculation.

According to the site, the initial tweet was nothing more than Pop Justice‘s way of joking around, and claimed that Spears never intended to sample Timberlake’s “Cry Me A River” on her upcoming track, which marks Spears’ first release from her ninth studio album.

Gossip Cop also confirmed that rumors claiming that Britney’s “Make Me (Oooh)” is a diss track aimed at Justin Timberlake are simply “not true.”

The latest round of speculation about Spears and Timberlake comes after Britney admitted back in 2011 that Justin actually “inspires her” with his music.

Britney made the pretty surprising admission about her ex-boyfriend during an interview with USA Today, where Spears confessed that she’s actually a big fan of Timberlake’s music.

“Justin Timberlake [is so different and fresh],” Britney told the site at the time. “It’s inspiring for me, and it makes people eager to listen to music, which helps everyone.”

Spears’s gush came shortly after Justin spoke about Britney in a 2011 interview with Vanity Fair, where he confessed that the two haven’t spoken since they split, which was almost a decade prior to the candid interview.

“We were two birds of the same feather – small-town kids, doing the same thing” Justin said of his and Britney’s past romance. “But then you become adults, and the way you were as kids doesn’t make any sense. We spent way too much time being the biggest thing for teenyboppers.”

“I wish her the best — that goes without saying,” Justin Timberlake continued of Britney Spears in the interview, admitting, “we haven’t spoken in nine or 10 years.”
