Amber Heard Claims That Johnny Depp Abused Her Challenged By Winona Ryder: Is It Relevant?

Soon after Amber Heard filed for divorce from Johnny Depp, she requested and was granted a temporary restraining order. Heard alleged that during her relationship with Depp, the actor abused her physically and verbally. Now, in response to Amber’s claims of domestic violence, his former girlfriend Winona Ryder is opening up about her own experience with Johnny, reported The Cut.

Ryder is not alone in stepping up to take sides in the ongoing debate over who is telling the truth. While Heard produced proof including texts and photos, her friends also have supported her allegations of abuse. Amber as well as her pals are prepared to testify in the future about the domestic violence claims.

However, siding with Team Depp, Lily-Rose Depp defended her father on Instagram.

“My dad is the sweetest, most loving person I know, he’s been nothing but a wonderful father to my little brother and I, and everyone who knows him would say the same.”

And while Amber’s friends are supporting her, one pal of Johnny’s, comedian Doug Stanhope, is challenging the abuse allegations by claiming that Heard has resorted to “blackmailing” Depp.

In response to the controversy, Johnny’s former girlfriend Winona termed the notion of Johnny abusing someone as “unimaginable.” However, in describing her own relationship with Depp, Ryder also emphasized that she is not attempting to label Amber as a liar.

“I can only speak from my own experience, which was wildly different… He was never, never that way towards me. Never abusive at all towards me. I only know him as a really good, loving, caring guy who is very, very protective of the people that he loves.”

Winona also admitted that she was not present during the alleged abuse, while clarifying that she has difficulties in envisioning Johnny as an abusive person.

“I wasn’t there. I don’t know what happened. I’m not calling anyone a liar. I’m just saying, it’s difficult and upsetting for me to wrap my head around it,” explained Ryder.

Depp and Winona had a four-year relationship, and she reflected on how it feels now to hear the accusations of domestic violence.

“Imagine if someone you dated when you were—I was 17 when I met him—was accused of that. It’s just shocking. I have never seen him be violent toward a person before.”

Johnny’s and Ryder’s relationship lasted from 1989 to 1993, raising the question of whether how Winona says he acted then is relevant to Heard’s allegations now. The next phase will involve court hearings in August, and that will determine whether the temporary domestic-violence restraining order will be extended.

Despite the defense that Ryder offered up for Depp, Johnny, and Winona had a roller-coaster relationship, pointed out People.

When the two met in 1989, the actress was 18, while he was 27. It took only five months of dating before they became engaged.

“There’s been nothing in my 27 years that’s comparable to the feeling I have with Winona,” Depp said soon after they met.

Johnny showed his feelings with a tattoo, “Winona Forever.” In addition to dating, the two worked together on the movie Edward Scissorhands.

However, the engagement was called off in 1993, with the tattoo changed to “Wino Forever.”

Reflecting on the breakup with Depp in 2009, Ryder described it as her “first heartbreak.” Moreover, recalled the actress, she struggled with depression.

“Everybody else just thought I had everything in the world, you know, I had no reason to be depressed, everything was sort of at its peak, but inside I was completely lost,” admitted Winona.

While waiting for the next phase of the divorce to play out, Johnny has been spending time on his private island in the Bahamas. Since heading back to Los Angeles, Depp was seen at a comedy club during the weekend.
