Drake BET Awards 2016: Drizzy’s Winner List — Did He Finally Show Up?

Drake is the “big man on campus” at the BET Awards 2016. Drizzy is nominated for several categories.

Drake didn’t make an awards appearance. Although he’s actually made plenty in the past, Drake is no stranger to skipping out on awards presentations.

Yet, concerning Drake and BET Awards 2016, Drizzy’s reputation is in the building. US Weekly reports that Drake was supposed to appear at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles — alongside other stars such as Beyoncé and Rihanna.

The source also notes that Drake’s collaboration partner, Future, was listed as one of the performers for the night.

Right now, Drake has nine nominations.

The following lists include Drake’s BET Award nominations, along with the other nominees for those particular awards.

  • Chris Brown – “Back to Sleep”

Three of Drake’s biggest hits have gained him much recognition at the BET Awards.

Many people thought Drake’s feature in Rihanna’s “Work” would surely snag BET’s Video of the Year. However, as can be seen in the results, Beyoncé took that award home with “Formation.”

If you haven’t seen Drizzy’s appearance in “Work,” it’s worth the watch. There are actually two versions of the video: clean and explicit. Most people are familiar with the clean version.

Yet, the explicit one shows Rihanna in a see-through mesh top, bra-less, while she dances for Drake. For this reason, many thought the video would take the BET award home.

But…nope. However, Best Collaboration isn’t bad at all.

Nevertheless, given that Drake’s Views album recently dropped, it’s understandable that none of the songs are in the categories.

While “Hotline Bling” was included in Views, Drake dropped it as a single long before the album released.

Likewise, although Drake’s album didn’t exactly show up within the BET Awards nominations, his Billboard standings have proven to be awards in their own right.

The biggest album success has been Drizzy’s “One Dance.” It’s an international hit. Currently, according to Billboard, Drake’s song is still holding down the No. 1 spot in the U.K. Singles chart.

The source notes that Drake’s song is now the longest running single in the U.K.’s digital history.

You know how you can tell if a song is hot? Look on YouTube. If you can find every version of the song except the original, you know you’ve got a winner.

Several people have created cover versions of Drake’s “One Dance” song. And, actually, some of them are worth the listen.

The Inquisitr recently discussed a few of those particular Drake covers.

The same happened when Drizzy dropped “Hotline Bling.” Even known musical celebrities jumped on the bandwagon with their own, unique versions of the song.

Interestingly enough, when Drake released that song, many people found his dancing humorous. However, like several songs by Drake, it grew on people.

All in all, what do you think about Drake’s BET awards? Do you think he should’ve won more of the categories from which he was nominated? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below.
