What idiotic Apple tealeaves are these people imagining?

For the better part of two week now, it seems longer so it could actually be less, people have been prognosticating over some sort of new product that Apple might be launching that might be a tablet computer. Even before any confirmations have been given, which knowing Apple won’t happen until it is ready to give them, the drool is starting to form on even the most rabid Apple fanbois.

All we have at this point is a bunch of rumors about possible touch screens and possible form factors but this hasn’t stopped analysts like Piper Jaffray from coming out and saying that a product that doesn’t even exist yet will increase Apple’s overall revenue for 2010 by 3 percent. They are also prescient enough to say that Apple would sell 2 million units of this currently imaginary product within the first year.

We believe an Apple tablet would be priced 30%-50% below the $999 MacBook, and would offer best in class web, email, and media software,” the report reads. “In other words, we believe Apple’s tablet would compete well in the netbook category even though it would not be a netbook.”

Of course this type of tealeaf reading has given sites like AppleInsider the chance to write up some nice wordy posts (their post on this comes in at 525 words) that will provide enough link attraction to keep everyone clicking happily over the weekend. Anything more than that and you have 525 words of nothingness – much like the report from Piper Jaffray.

But you heard it from them first folks. Apple will have a tablet computer that will take over the world and sell 2 million units in the first year and add 3% to Apple’s coffers for the year. All fluff and speculation about stuff we have known for the last few weeks and absolutely no good hard news. Yup .. it’s Friday.
