Chris Brown To Perform At BET Awards 2016? Fans Beg Singer To Attend Despite Award Show Criticism

Chris Brown may have just wrapped up the first portion of his “One Hell Of A Nite Tour” in Europe yesterday, but it looks like fans are still holding out hope that the “Grass Ain’t Greener” singer will make it back to the U.S. in time for a surprise appearance at tonight’s 2016 BET Awards in Los Angeles.

During last year’s awards ceremony, Chris Brown gave a show-stopping performance of his hit tracks “Ayo” and “Post to Be” alongside Tyga and Omarion, respectively, in addition to taking home awards for “Best Male R&B/Pop Artist,” “Viewer’s Choice” for his collaboration with Nicki Minaj, Drake, and Lil Wayne for “Only,” and the coveted “Fandemonium Award” at the 2015 BET Awards. This year, Chris Brown is nominated once more for the “Best Male R&B/Pop Artist” category in addition to being nominated for the fan-voted “Coca-Cola Viewers’ Choice Award” for his sultry track, “Back to Sleep.”

Despite Chris Brown’s long history of being nominated and performing at the BET Awards, fans were disappointed to learn that the singer was not announced as a performer for this year’s award show arguably due to scheduling conflicts with the “Little More (Royalty)” singer’s European tour which concluded on June 25 with a show in Naples, Italy.

While Brown hasn’t provided an update regarding whether or not he’ll be attending tonight’s show, fans have taken to social media to express their hopefulness in receiving a surprise performance from the singer given Chris Brown’s surprise appearance and performance of his track, “Loyal” at the 2014 BET Awards.

However, Chris Brown seemingly dispelled rumors of a surprise performance at the 2016 BET Awards earlier this month after he took to Instagram to bash award ceremonies by calling them “fake” and suggesting that networks “lie to fans” in order to achieve better ratings.

After one fan took to the social media site to encourage other fans to continue voting for Brown in the “Viewers’ Choice” category for this year’s show, Chris Brown replied to the fan’s post with the message, “F*** THEM AWARDS! EVERY AWARD SHOW AND AWARD IS FIXED,” The Shade Room reports.

“Networks lie to fans so they can engage in their programs..EVEN THE GRAMMYS,” Chris Brown continued before seemingly confirming his lack of attendance for tonight’s program, “If I don’t perform, I don’t come. It’s just as fake as the industry and they [sic] lies these artist tell y’all to gain success. Don’t be fooled.”

While it remains to be seen whether or not Chris Brown will take home the award for the “Viewers’ Choice” category, the singer previously won the category for “R&B Artist of the Year” during April’s iHeartRadio Music Awards 2016 show in addition to performing a medley of his hits including “Liquor,” “Back to Sleep,” “Wrist,” and “Anyway,” Rap-Up reports.

The BET Awards 2016 airs live tonight, June 26, at 8p/7c from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles with hosts Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross.
