Nicolas Cage, Wife Alice Kim Break Up After 12 Years Of Marriage

Nicolas Cage and his wife, Alice Kim, have gone their separate ways.

Cage and Kim, who had been married for 12 years, have reportedly been split since January of this year, as previously reported by US Weekly. The reason for the split hasn’t been confirmed yet. The two shared a 10-year-0ld-son, Kal-el Coppola Cage.

The story of how their romance started sounds like a script made in Hollywood. The Leaving Las Vegas actor, 52, met Kim, 32, when she was working as a waitress at a Los Angeles restaurant in February 2004. After dating for two months, the two got engaged. On July 30, 2004, the pair got married in Northern California.

In an interview with the Guardian, Cage joked that he decided to wed Kim so that she can come with him to South Africa where he was set to shoot the 2005 film Lord of War.

“You can connect the dots. And we did it because we loved each other,” Cage added.

In the same interview, Cage said that his life became stable since he married Kim, and that a big part of that was because he married someone “out of his own zip code.”

“I made a very clear decision to marry out of my own zip code. I mean, way out of my own zip code. I married into another culture, and it’s interesting because in Korea they call me the Son-in-Law,” Nicolas explained.

With Alice being 20 years his junior, Nicolas admitted that her parents disapproved of their relationship at first because of their considerable age gap, which made their romance “an uphill battle” at first. He recounted in the interview the awkward moment when he met Kim’s mother for the first time.

“When my mother-in-law came to the house for the first time, before even hello or nice to meet you, all I got was” – he puts on a broad Korean accent – “‘She too young!’ And so I knew this was going to be an uphill battle,” Cage recalled.

Nicolas Cage had been married twice before tying the knot with Alice. Before Kim, he was married to Lisa Marie Presley for around 4 months back in 2002. And before that, Cage was married to actress Patricia Arquette from 1995 to 2001.

Nicolas fathered a child, 25-year-old Weston, with former model-actress, Christina Fulton.

Cage will be busy filming his next movie, the independent thriller Mom and Dad. Directed by Brian Taylor, the movie will have Nicolas starring opposite Selma Blair. In the film, Cage and Blair are set to portray parents who were somehow urged to do harm against their own children.

Taylor was the same director who previously worked with Cage on 2011’s Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. Nicolas is co-directing and starring in the film Vengeance: A Love Story, which is now in its post-production stage. Produced by Michael Mendelsohn of CEO of Patriot Pictures and Union Patriot Capital Management, Vengeance: A Love Story sees Nicolas Cage playing the role of a private detective. The filming of the movie started in April in Atlanta. The movie is based on Joyce Carol Oates’ 2003 novel, Rape: A Love Story.

Oates’ novel tells the story of a single mother who was raped and left for dead by four meth addicts. The mother was nursed back to health by her mother, but did not get the justice she deserved as the perpetrators posted bail and were released from prison.

The film will have Cage playing the role of a detective (again) who was compelled to resort to extrajudicial means to deliver justice for the mother.

As everyone can tell by now, Nicolas Cage will have a lot of film projects to occupy himself with amid his split with Alice Kim.
