It’s not unusual for a celebrity to spread their empire into the sports world. Bill Murray has a minor league baseball team in South Carolina, Magic Johnson has a stake in the Dodgers, and Jay-Z recently took part ownership of the Brooklyn Nets. Well, now it looks like Justin Timberlake is throwing his hat into the sports arena.

The man responsible for bringing sexy back has decided to grab a portion of his hometown basketball team, the Memphis Grizzlies.

Commercial Appeal reports that Timberlake, 31, will be a limited partner when Robert Pera purchases the Memphis Grizzlies from Michael Heisley. Pera has already agreed to make the purchase and is currently being vetted by the NBA. The NBA still has to approve the deal.

ESPN’s Marc Stein wrote on Twitter:

“Fun one: ESPN sources say prospective Grizz owner Robert Pera has recruited Memphis’ own Justin Timberlake (@jtimberlake) as minority owner.”

Timberlake grew up in Memphis, but, once he found fame with ‘NSync, he started spending a lot more time in Los Angeles. He’s become an avid Lakers fan and is frequently seen court side.

Timberlake hasn’t commented on the rumor or how it will affect his love for Kobe Bryant.
