Gangnam Style Mom Video Goes Viral [Video]

Gangnam Style mom, the latest dance video dedicated to the Korean pop smash hit, is blowing all other tributes away.

The video was posted to YouTube by dancer Mike Song and features the nimble young dancer busting some moves alongside his 60-year-old mom. Song said she’s never danced before, but The Huffington Post notes that “the video of the mom and son duo performing the Gangnam Style dance looks like the work of professionals.”

The Gangnam Style mom video starts unassumingly with Mike and his mom performing some pretty interesting moves to “Gangnam Style,” but it really picks up at around the one minute mark.

Though she’s still a novice, Mike Song is pretty confident in his mom’s dancing abilities.

“My mom will battle your mom,” he wrote.

The success of the Gangnam Style mom video is almost as unlikely as Psy’s “Gangnam Style” itself. As a slightly overweight, not particularly attractive 34-year, Psy is far from the norm in the tightly controlled, formulaic world of Korean pop music.

And yet, since its release in mid July, “Gangnam Style” has been a viral smash on the internet, The Atlantic noted. The track is now approaching 120 million views on YouTube and has become the crossover hit in American that Korean pop has been searching for.

“Gangnam Syle” also popular among American artists with rapper T-Pain being retweeted 2,400 times when he wrote, “Words cannot even describe how amazing this video is.” Justin Bieber is even reportedly interested in recording his own version of the song.
