Omar Mateen Gay? Orlando Shooter On Hotel Cameras With Man Claiming To Be Lover [Report]

Was Omar Mateen gay? This seems to be a question on the minds of many, as more details about the Orlando shooter and his alleged secret life are emerging. Since Omar Mateen opened fire at a popular gay nightclub in Florida on June 12, many have wondered if there was more of a reason behind Mateen’s obvious terror/hate crime.

Mateen killed 49 people and injured several more, clearly targeting Pulse Nightclub and the people who frequented it.

According to Us Weekly, a man has since come forward who claims to be Omar Mateen’s gay lover. The heavily disguised man, known to the public as “Miguel,” said that he had a two-month fling with Mateen and described their relationship as a “friends with benefits” type of thing.

Miguel said that Omar Mateen was gay and that Omar’s wife, Noor, knew about her husband’s sexuality. Miguel also said that he met Mateen on the gay dating app Grindr back in October. After learning of the shooting, Miguel said that he was very upset.

“I’ve cried like you have no idea. But the thing that makes me want to tell the truth is that he didn’t do it for terrorism. In my opinion, he did it for revenge,” said Miguel.

“He adored Latinos, gay Latinos, with brown skin, but he felt rejected. He felt used by them. There were moments in the Pulse nightclub that made him feel really bad. Guys used him. That really affected him. I believe this crazy horrible thing he did — that was revenge,” Miguel added.

Omar Mateen’s alleged gay lover’s story may hold some truth to it. A new report published by TMZ claims that Omar Mateen was picked up on surveillance video taken at a hotel in Orlando. The dates and times Mateen appeared on the footage match up to the dates and times Miguel said they were at the hotel together.

“Sources at the Ambassador Hotel [say that] Mateen was seen on camera footage recorded December 14, 2015, around 11 p.m. The video bolsters the claims of the heavily disguised man who told Univision he met up with Mateen 15-20 times at the hotel between November and December. Our sources say the video shows Mateen walk to the front desk, speak to a staffer and then walk around a corner toward the room where the anonymous man says he was staying during their rendezvous.”

If Omar Mateen was gay and the story about his gay lover is true, some believe that the attack at Pulse Nightclub was some kind of “twisted revenge plot.”

Miguel told the media that Mateen confided in him about his fears of being infected with HIV after one of his alleged partners told him that he was HIV positive after they had sex, according to Us Weekly.

“He was terrified that he was infected. I asked him, ‘Did you do a test?’ Yes. He went to the pharmacy and did the test…. It came out negative, but it doesn’t come out right away. It takes four, five months. When I asked him what he was going to do now, his answer was ‘I’m going to make them pay for what they did to me,'” Miguel said.

It’s unclear if Miguel knew what Omar Mateen meant by this or if Mateen told him anything else about his supposed “revenge” plans.
