‘Batman V Superman’ Ultimate Edition Gets Theatrical Release — One Night Only
Mild spoilers for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice up ahead.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice ended its theatrical run with under $900 million at the worldwide box office. The epic Warner Bros. film was not able to hit $1 billion, a goal that the film’s predecessor, Man of Steel, also failed to achieve. BvS made its budget back and then some, and was not a complete and utter bomb (like 2015’s Fantastic Four), but the fact that the film did not at least hit $1 billion at the box office is very much a disappointment.

A Batman v Superman Ultimate Edition has been talked about for the last several months now, promising a longer cut of the film, complete with an R-rating. This was supposed to just be for the DVD/Bluray release of the film, but now Comicbook.com reports that this BvS Ulitmate Edition will hit theaters for a limited time. It looks like anyone who had a problem with the theatrical cut of Dawn of Justice, they have a chance to be redeemed, depending on where you live.
“As a thank you to all of the fans, Zack [Snyder] and the filmmakers would like to invite you to a special theatrical screening of Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice Ultimate Edition,” according to Warner Bros. via the DC All-Access app. “This one night only experience will be on Monday, June 27th in select cities. Reserve your seats now as space is limited.”

This is going to be a free event, meaning that Warner Bros. won’t be able to push the theatrical box office closer to $1 billion — which would be one of the logical reasons for such an event.
The latest trailer for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice – The Ultimate Edition shows off much more action, including the brutal brawl between Batman and Superman, as well as more action beats from Wonder Woman. Since this Ultimate Edition is going to be R-rated, these extended bits are likely to be more intense. Some reports claim that in the BvS Ultimate Edition, Lex Luthor reveals to Batman that he has figured out his true identity. This would actually make sense, considering that Luthor was able to deduce Superman’s true identity.

Along with the extra 30 minutes of story, the Ultimate Edition DVD/Bluray is going to come with over two hours of bonus features. Director Zack Snyder has recently admitted that the tone of Justice League has changed, following the harsh response Batman v Superman got from many fans and critics.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice — The Ultimate Edition will be available for digital purchase on June 28, and the Blu-ray will follow on July 19.
