What exactly is J.J. Abrams going to do after Star Trek 2 is released next spring and Fringe wraps after its fifth and final season? Why, partner up with J.H. Wyman to work on a pilot for a buddy cop drama starring robots, of course!

Fringe executive producers J.J. Abrams and J.H. Wyman are apparently so happy to collaborate with one another that they’re aching to do it again (and on Fox t’boot). Cinemablend reports that Abrams and Wyman have teamed up once again to take on a new sci-fi project that has already gotten pilot production commitment from the Fox network.

According to Deadline, the show is being produced by Bad Robot and Warner Bros. TV, and though it doesn’t have a title yet, it is described as a futuristic drama and “an action-packed buddy cop show, set in the near future, when all LAPD officers are partnered with highly evolved human-like androids.”

So… it’s I, Robot meets Lethal Weapon?

Also, it sounds a bit like the ambitious futuristic project Howard Gordon and Josh Friedman are working on for NBC, which will also be set in a world “where human-looking robots are commonplace,” and involves the investigation of the first-ever robot murder, and whispers of a coming robot revolution.

Who knows what the future will bring, but hopefully the development of these two futuristic robot shows signals a new trend in entertainment – vampires are out and robots are on the rise.
