Marvel Heroes Closed Beta Kicks Off October 1

Developer Gazillion Entertainment announced today that, in just a few weeks, its superhero-themed action RPG / MMO, Marvel Heroes, will be entering into closed beta.

The Marvel Heroes beta kicks off on October 1, but only a limited number of players will be able to get in, seeing as it’s a closed beta. If you’d like to try your luck, you can register for the beta by heading over to the official website.

As the name suggests, Marvel Heroes puts players in control of established superheroes from the Marvel universe. There are a variety of characters to choose from all sorts of Marvel franchises including the recently-revealed Deadpool, Captain America, Spider-Man, The Hulk, The Punisher, and plenty more still.

Among the Gazillion Entertainment development team is David Brevik, who was heavily involved in the first two Diablo games. Unsurprisingly, Marvel Heroes is a lot like Diablo. It controls similarly, and loot is a big focus of the game. You know, besides the fact that you’re playing as a superhero from the Marvel universe.

Brevik was involved with a bit of controversy recently when he publicly voiced his thoughts on why he thinks that Diablo III failed. Brevik’s comments drew the ire of some Blizzard employees including Diablo III producer Jay Wilson infamous, who said in response: “F**k that loser.”

Naturally, the comments from Blizzard employees stirred up the internet equivalent of a hornet’s nest. Wilson went on to apologize for his comment, but I can’t imagine that Brevik or Gazillion minded too much: All of the controversy brought a lot of attention to Marvel Heroes as a possible alternative for classic Diablo purists.

Controversy aside, Marvel Heroes is definitely on my radar as an action RPG fan, and I’m looking forward to getting my hands on it.
