Nick Cannon Begs For Privacy

Nick Cannon, a name highly associated with one of the most enthusiastic hosting personalities in the business, has undergone a rough divorce. Once married to Mariah Carey, Nick Cannon fought a battle to keep it together with Mariah, but things did not go as well as they had hoped. Rumors have been circulating that the divorce is far from being finalized despite Mariah being engaged to Australian businessperson James Packer. According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Nick Cannon released his frustrations through a song called “Divorce Papers,” which he released on the news website KarenCivil.com.

Through the release of the track, Cannon wished to make it clear that he is not holding up the divorce proceedings. Though he has not gone on the record to directly deny or confirm the divorce, Cannon has said that nobody is holding the proceedings up.

While the song covers the relationship between Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey, it also dwells on his late father. But the focus of the song remains on the relationship Cannon and Carey once had and their twins, Moroccan and Monroe. In a statement made to KarenCivil.com, Nick Cannon said that the song was not written to make a statement on the divorce in progress but to be taken as a creative expression.

The song was released to coincide with Father’s Day and, according to Billboard, Father’s Day gave Nick Cannon a chance to reflect upon himself as a father and how much he wanted to be the best father he can be for his children.

In fact, according to ET Online, Nick Cannon spent a very happy Father’s Day with his two girls and with Mariah Carey, and from the look of the photos the pair posted on social media, everyone had a great day.

Cannon explained in detail why he wrote the rap song in the first place, saying that he didn’t write “Divorce Papers” to “feed the tabloid chatter” or even to defuse it, but simply for creative expression.

“This was strictly a creative way for me to express my frustrations with the media, the naysayers, myself and ultimately with the voices in my head. One late night in my studio, after hearing the recent accusations against me and my character, I turned on my drum machine, found this amazing Willie Hutch sample, looped it, and went into the booth and let it all out. It felt great!”

Although the song was written about a heavy topic, Nick Cannon maintains that he is happy for Carey and in particular that he is happy with the direction she is heading in her life. Nick and Mariah seem to be in a happy, contented place in their relationship, even though they are no longer together.

It seems from Nick Cannon’s statements and from the lyrics of his new song that all he could wish for at this point is for the media to not twist the truth and invent rumors about himself and his former spouse, especially since doing so many spark unnecessary conflict between them. Nick Cannon is more than happy to clear up any of the misunderstandings people might have between them.

Nick Cannon spoke on how Father’s Day motivated him into thinking about his role as a father to his children, saying that he has been “reflecting quite a bit” on his “life as a father” and how important it is for him to be the best father he can be, the way his father figures were to him. He ended with another plea to the public and the media to allow him to conduct his private relationships in private.

“So with that said, I just ask that the public continues to respect our process and remain patient and loving as me and my family aim for happiness.”

Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey filed for divorce in December, 2014, after separating four months prior. In July, 2015, Mariah Carey publicly debuted her new romance with James Packer after spending a northern summer aboard his family’s yacht. Packer and Carey then announced their engagement in January, 2016, after Carey was seen wearing an engagement ring.
