‘People’ Breaks News ‘Jill & Jessa: Counting On’ Renewed For Season 2

Fans of TLC’s Jill & Jessa: Counting On will be ecstatic to hear the Duggar siblings will be returning for a second season. Since Jill & Jessa: Counting On ended in May, the future of the show has remained unknown until today’s announcement. The news of Counting On‘s Season 2 renewal may have gone unnoticed by many, though, as it may have been overshadowed by the announcement that Jinger Duggar is officially in a courtship with soccer player Jeremy Vuolo.

Jill & Jessa: Counting On is actually a spin off of the Duggar family’s original show, 19 Kids and Counting. TLC made the decision to cancel 19 Kids and Counting after the oldest Duggar sibling, Josh Duggar, was involved in two sexually related scandals. First, it was revealed that Josh had sexually molested several of his younger sisters, Jill and Jessa included, when he was a teenager. Although the story of the molestation made its rounds quietly in anti-Duggar groups, it hadn’t officially become public news until last year.

Just as the Duggar family was finally starting to recover from the catastrophe Josh’s actions caused, another scandal involving Josh Duggar made headlines. Josh’s name was released on a list of Ashley Madison account holders. Ashley Madison is essentially a dating website for people who are already involved in relationships, whether that be dating or married. The purpose of the site is to create an avenue for users to cheat on their partners. Josh admitted to having the Ashley Madison account, and also released a public statement that he was addicted to pornography and had cheated on his wife, Anna Duggar.

Jill & Jessa: Counting On made its series debut last year and started off with high ratings. Throughout the season, ratings started to drop, and the show started filling new episodes with recaps from 19 Kids and Counting episodes. Soon, news broke that sponsors were demanding TLC stop airing their ads during Jill & Jessa: Counting On. The sponsors felt there was too much scandal revolving around the Duggar name, and they didn’t want their products to be associated with the family. Without sponsors, it seemed like there was no hope for a second season for Counting On.

The future of Jill & Jessa: Counting On was so questionable, that the family started a campaign on social media to have the show renewed. #BringtheDuggarsBack made its rounds on Facebook and Twitter, with fans hoping TLC executives would see the hashtag trending, and learn how much fans wanted to see the show return.

After Season 1 of Jill & Jessa: Counting On ended, TLC was silent as to whether or not the show would be renewed for a second season. Oddly enough, TLC is still being silent and no official word has actually come from them about the Season 2 renewal. The announcement can be found hidden at the end of a short video posted by PeopleTV on their website in an article announcing Jinger’s courtship news. The People article also notes Counting On will be returning to TLC this summer.

“The pair’s courtship will be a big part of the new season of Jill & Jessa: Counting On.”

There has been no talk of the second season by any of the Duggar siblings on social media, either. All that can be found are posts about Jinger’s courtship.

Are you excited to hear Jill & Jessa: Counting On will be returning for Season 2?
