It has been revealed that a four-year-old girl hid under the legs of a woman during a shooting in the French Alps where three people were killed inside a British-registered car.
The three are believed to be a British husband, wife, and grandmother, with their vehicle found near the popular French tourist destination Lake Annecy.
An 8-year-old girl was also found near the car with several gunshot wounds and a fractured skull. She is now in a critical condition in hospital in the Southeast French city of Grenoble.
Her 4-year-old sister was found alive almost eight hours after the massacre. The murdered father has been announced as Saad al Hilli, a 50-year-old Iraqi-born resident of the English town Claygate in Surrey who was originally from Baghdad. The incident occurred in a car park in the village of Chevaline and saw al Hilli’s BMW repeatedly shot at and riddled with bullets.
A fourth victim, a male cyclist, was also shot dead with his body being discovered just yards away from the scene of the crime. It is believed that the man, a father-of-three and in his 40s inadvertently cycled onto the disaster before being shot.
The child was only discovered when police investigators entered the vehicle for a closer inspection of the incident after forensic experts had told officers not to immediately enter the car.
This shooting comes several weeks after a spate of killing in the US, which includes The Dark Knight Rises shooting in Aurora that saw 12 people killed.
