Nadia Lockyer, the estranged wife of California State Treasurer Bill Lockyer, has reportedly been arrested after police found drugs stashed in the Orange County home she was living in with the couple’s nine-year-old son.

The Orange County District Attorney’s Office confirmed Wednesday that, on August 28, police — responding to an anonymous tip — went to a home where Lockyer and her 9-year-old son Diego were visiting a relative.

Upon their arrival, officers found methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia — tubular aluminum foil with a burned end — at the house.

“When they later contacted the defendant, she showed objective signs of being under the influence of a drug,” said Farrah Emami, spokeswoman for the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.

Lockyer was then arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine, a felony, and three misdemeanors: being under the influence of methamphetamine, possession of controlled substance paraphernalia, and child abuse.

Following the incident, Lockyer entered not guilty pleas and was released on her own recognizance.

She has since checked herself into a drug rehab center in Orange County and is due back in court next Monday for a pre-trial hearing, according to CBS San Francisco.

Lockyer’s attorney, Allan Stokke of Newport Beach, said Wednesday:

“[Nadia] recognizes her error and she intends to take all appropriate actions to regain her health.”

The LA Times notes that Lockyer’s recent incident is the latest in the latest in a string of public substance abuse and relationship struggles faced by the woman.

After being elected to the Alameda County Board of Supervisors in November 2010, Nadia Lockyer announced her resignation earlier this year amid a months-long drug and sex scandal.
