WWE News: The Shield Have Officially Taken Over WWE

The WWE has been hit and miss with their NXT alumni, but there is no doubt who the MVPs are when it comes to NXT call-ups. That would be the three members of The Shield, Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, and Dean Ambrose. Much like the Kliq in the 1990s, The Shield were all friends behind the scenes who were partners and are now heated rivals and they are the best homegrown characters the WWE has developed in years.

Yes, Seth Rollins was originally Tyler Black, the Ring of Honor champion, and Dean Ambrose was Jon Moxley, a hardcore indie favorite, but they are now completely developed WWE characters, along with a member of the mighty Samoan dynasty in Roman Reigns. Love them or hate them, but for the WWE, The Shield are the most dominant force in the company, and WWE Money in the Bank proved that, with WWE.com reporting that the three members of The Shield stole the entire show.

The actual Money in the Bank match had two men who were odds-on-favorites to win the briefcase. Those men were Kevin Owens and Dean Ambrose. With all the talk that Ambrose had delivered about winning the briefcase and cashing it in that night, it seemed it wouldn’t happen because the WWE loves to swerve their fans. This time, there was no swerve.

Roman Reigns walked into the Money in the Bank event as the champion, winning the title at WrestleMania from Triple H, his second reign as champion. His opponent was former WWE champion Seth Rollins, someone who had never lost the title, instead surrendering it after tearing his knee. In a slight upset, Rollins pinned Reigns cleanly to win his second WWE world title at Money in the Bank.

After that, it was Dean Ambrose who ran in from behind and smashed Rollins in the head with the Money in the Bank briefcase. He then cashed in, hit Dirty Deeds, and pinned Rollins to win his first ever WWE world title. To wrap up the story, all three members of The Shield were WWE world champions at some point on June 19.

To make it even clearer, a member of The Shield has held the WWE world title in six of the last eight title reigns. Last year at WrestleMania 31, Seth Rollins cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase to join the WWE world title match between Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns and pinned Reigns for the title. Rollins had to surrender the title and Reigns won it in a tournament, only to have Sheamus cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase to win the title.

Reigns then beat Sheamus for the title for his second reign, but then lost the title to Triple H when he was forced to put it up for grabs in the actual Royal Rumble match. Reigns won it for the third time when he beat Triple H at WrestleMania 32. Then, on one night at WWE Money in the Bank, Seth Rollins beat Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose beat Seth Rollins, giving The Shield six WWE world title reigns in just a little over one year.

That means, clearly, that The Shield is on top of the WWE. On the same night that AJ Styles beat John Cena, with a little help from his friends, it is not Cena that is the face of the WWE, but instead The Shield. When they debuted, The Shield said they would take over. With Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, and Dean Ambrose dominating the WWE world title scene, it has happened.

It will be interesting to see what happens on WWE Monday Night Raw when it comes to Phoenix on June 20. Randy Orton is rumored to be making his return to the WWE to help John Cena battle AJ Styles and The Club. The brand extension will also happen in a few weeks. With that in mind, the WWE world title scene has three men at the top of the WWE, all fighting for supremacy. Those three men are Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, and Dean Ambrose. The Shield have officially taken over the WWE.
