‘The Dark Tower:’ Did Idris Elba Just Drop The Perfect Teaser?

While some Stephen King fans say Idris Elba was giving us a teaser for The Dark Tower movie, it might simply have been the perfect Father’s Day greeting.

It has taken almost a decade for the film adaptation of Stephen King’s acclaimed series of novels, The Dark Tower, to finally get going. Production started in early April and Stephen King fans are longing to know whether the movie will represent their favorite characters in a positive way.

Actor Elba is playing in the lead role as Roland Deschain, The Gunslinger, and while filming continues, Idris dropped what might be a tantalizing hint via Twitter on Sunday.

As reported by Screen Crush, Elba posted the tweet with the quote, “Remember the face of your father.”

These words are well known to Stephen King followers who have read the fascinating series of books. The phrase can be interpreted literally as remembering your father, but it also means the person being addressed must stay true to their beliefs, not straying from the destined path.

Besides the iconic image, Idris also posted a line where Roland talks about his lineage, right back to a certain royal personage by the name of Arthur, saying the following.

“I am Roland, son of Steven, son of Henry, true descendant of Arthur. And I have not forgotten. #TheDarkTowerMovie.”

While these tantalizing posts might not mean too much to those who have not had the pleasure of reading The Dark Tower books, King fans that have agree it is a fun way to commemorate Father’s Day.

Fun and tantalizing as it is, the teaser doesn’t really give us much in the way of plot details or spoilers for the upcoming movie. However, it does make fans want to know more, whether from photos of the set or an upcoming trailer.

While shooting of the movie is still ongoing, this may, however, be a subtle way for Idris to reveal that something big is coming soon. It could be a good idea to follow Idris Elba on Twitter for more potential teases and possible spoilers.

Originally, it was thought The Dark Tower would be a direct adaptation of the first book in the series, but according to more recent information, it looks like the movie will be taking several creative liberties with the narrative.

Sony is keeping their collective lips sealed, but Stephen King himself hinted last month that the film will incorporate elements from later novels in the series, rather than just the first book.

True to the story, however, Elba’s character, Roland Deschain, will be a frontier warrior and the last of the iconic gunslingers, who uses pistols as his weapon of choice while he searches for the enigmatic Dark Tower.

Besides Idris Elba, Matthew McConaughey will be starring as Walter Padick, Tom Taylor as Deschain’s young follower Jake Chambers, Jackie Earle Haley as Sayre, Abbey Lee Kershaw in the role of Tirana, along with Katheryn Winnick and others.

The last time there was a teaser posted on Twitter, it was by the master himself, where he posted an image of the Horn of Eld.

In the novels, Roland had lost the famed horn, but in the teaser, there it is. Without saying too much, fans of the books will be wondering how it can still be around and what effect this will have on the movie’s ending.

While Stephen King fans wait with bated breath, the movie version of The Dark Tower will hit the theaters on February 17, 2017.
