Rupert Everett Says Caitlyn Jenner Made Mistake By Transitioning

Actor Rupert Everett, who is openly gay, has shared his strong opinions about Caitlyn Jenner’s very public choice to transition fully to a woman. Everett not only deemed it a “terrible mistake,” but also stated that Jenner had “no clue” as to what transitioning actually involved.

The Independent shares details as to the basis for Rupert’s opinions on Caitlyn’s transition.

“The 57-year-old actor, who is gay himself, warned about the dangers of children having sex change operations and argued children should be able to embrace the ‘ambivalence’ of their gender without resorting to medical procedures.”

The actor also went on to share that while he was young, he wanted to be a girl and actually dressed exclusively as a female between the ages of 6 and 14. The publication shares the star’s words about these times that he quickly outgrew.

“I really wanted to be a girl. Thank God the world of now wasn’t then because I’d be on hormones and I’d be a woman. After I was 15 I never wanted to be a woman again.”

Everett clearly has a very firm stance on the whole issue of transitioning, and although Jenner has made it known that she — who was formerly known to the world as Olympian Bruce Jenner — has transitioned fully to a woman by way of surgery and hormone use. Everett isn’t buying it.

“I don’t think she’s a woman. She’s a cross-dressing man.”

The My Best Friends Wedding actor then expressed his view in a more general sense, in regard to young people who are in the process of finding their own identity and embracing their sex.

“It’s nice to be allowed to express yourself, but the hormone thing, very young, is a big step. I think a lot of children have an ambivalence when they’re very young to what sex they are or what they feel about everyone. And there should be a way of embracing it.”

Neither Caitlyn Jenner nor her representative agreed to comment on Rupert Everett’s remarks on the subject of the reality star’s transitioning.

It seems as though when Jenner first transitioned and unveiled her new form on the cover of Vanity Fair last year, she was hailed as brave and a trailblazer by both the LGBT community and the straight community. However, unfortunately, it hasn’t been the easiest road for the reality star who finds herself caught between the two worlds. This is mainly because many within the transsexual community don’t truly believe that Jenner understands the struggles that the everyday individual who has taken on this way of life faces. Jenner is seen as this celebrity who has everything given to her and has not dealt with the same realities that they face.

Additionally, Jenner has gotten herself into hot water by supporting politicians who have fervently been against the rights of the LGBT community. This has led those within this community to become confused as to what Caitlyn Jenner’s true agenda and stance is.

The Wrap relayed the growing frustrations toward the star within the LGBT community, earlier this year.

“I’m definitely seeing a growing frustration within the LGBT community with Caitlyn’s positions and actions,” confirmed trans activist Sarah McBride. “Her most recent comments about Ted Cruz were, for a lot of people, the last straw.”

Following this, another activist for gay rights spoke up about how Jenner’s support within the community has dwindled due to her poor choices of wording over the year.

“Caitlyn has eroded a lot of the enthusiasm that the LGBT community at large had for her as she was coming out,” noted LGBT activist Danielle Moodie-Mills. I find it very disappointing that through ‘I Am Cait’ and her conversations with less advantaged trans people there hasn’t been a cultural shift in her understanding of the movement.”
