World’s Richest Woman: Pay Australians $2 Per Day

Gina Rinehart, the world’s richest woman made waves last week when she said the poor should “stop being jealous” and “drink less.” Now the iron-ore mining magnate is back with more helpful information. Rinehart is now suggesting that Australian’s should be willing to work for $2 per day.

The Australian billionaire points to the African mining industry to support her thought. Rinehart says miners in Africa “are willing to work for less than $2 per day” just to make sure they have food on the tablet.

Rinehart was speaking with the Sydney Mining Club and her comments were caught on video. In her comments Rinehart told those in attendance:

“Africans want to work. Such statistics make me worry for this country’s future. Indeed, if we competed at the Olympic Games as sluggishly as we compete economically, there would be an outcry.”

In response to the comments a less than please Julia Gillard said of Rinehart’s rude and thoughtless comments:

“It’s not the Australian way to toss people … a $2 gold coin and then ask them to work for a day.”

It is rather easy for Gina Rinehart to make such claims, after all she earns $611 per second.

In the meantime the Australians comment has resonated all over the world, especially in the United States where working wages and other acts of class warfare have been pushed to the front and center of the 2012 election cycle.

Do you think Rinehart’s comments prove how out of touch rich people have become in regards to the working class?
