Katie Couric On Kate Middleton: She’s Too Thin

Is Kate Middleton too thin? Katie Couric seems to think so.

During a recent Q&A session following a test taping for her new show, Katie, Couric was asked about who her “dream guest” for the new show would be.

Couric said that she would love to have Kate Middleton on the show but then added that the Duchess of Cambridge had to eat more because she was too thin.

A live blog of the event by Whitney English recorded Couric saying:

“I think it would be really interesting to interview Kate Middleton because I think she has comported herself so well since she has been thrust in the limelight … I think she needs to eat more because she’s so thin.”

Couric’s comments weren’t meant to be mean-spirited, but they did strike up a conversation about Middleton’s weight.

According to The Daily Beast, Middleton lost 10 pounds before the Royal Wedding and has seemingly continued to lose weight as a member of the royal family. Middleton has frequently been accused of being bulimic, and Couric’s comments certainly won’t do anything to change that perception.

The Royal Family has not commented on Middleton’s weight but several “inside sources” have insisted via gossip magazines that Middleton is “fine” and that she does not have an eating disorder.

Do you think Katie Couric’s comments on Kate Middleton’s weight were out of line? Do you think Couric will be able to land her “dream guest” now that she’s criticized her eating habits?

  1. I just spent a few minutes looking at my high school yearbook – 1974. I was surprised at just how much thinner we all were then. And not just the students. EVERYONE was thinner in 1974. I thought about that for a while. In my yearbook, there were maybe a handful of kids that were "fat", and even those kids are normal by today's standards. So, I don't know IF Kate Middleton is too thin. Are most of the rest of America too fat? As for Katie Couric getting her dream interview, she might, if the Queen and the Palace think Kate needs to answer the statement that she is to thin.

  2. It's not my problem if Kate's too thin or not, but she does look guant in many of her recent photos, and if the camera adds 15 pounds, I would have to guess that she's probably underweight–and no surprise. Just like Diana before her, she's living in a media fishbowl, and she has to be flawlessly perfect, which in our culture means a size zero. Personally, I suspect that the only way anyone over the age of 20 can be that size is by unhealthy eating habits of some sort–either not eating enough or purging.

  3. well, first of all.. she has NOT been Kate Middleton for over a year now.. She is the Duchess and doing a great job of it! I don't know if she's under weight or not but.. she should still be referred to as her proper name and title.. She is showing the world how we should all attempt to treat one another and just a fascinating person, but.. please.. refer to her by her name!

  4. If you can't say something nice, Please say nothing at all.

Katie, Kate can make her own choices. No one else is walking a mile in her shoes.
