Microsoft Surface Pro 4 And Surface Book Get More Updates And Complaints

The Microsoft Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book have received another set of updates. Windows Report has the news.

“Next month marks the release of the Windows 10 Anniversary Update, celebrating the first anniversary of Windows 10’s launch, but until then Microsoft will continue to release builds with bug fixes and improvements. This includes both of its Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book tablets with company having announced that it will push out new firmware and driver updates for them.”

The article adds that the Surface Book has received Microsoft driver update for the Surface Base Firmware Update, a driver update for Surface UEFI, and a driver update for Surface Integration. The Surface Pro received a Microsoft update for Surface UEFI and a driver update for Surface Integration.

The very informative article also notes that users can manually check for updates by going to their tablet’s Settings > Update & security > Windows Updates > Check for updates. Before starting the installation process, users should make sure that their Surface battery is at least 40 percent charged.

Unfortunately, there have been some complaints with the driver updates. On Reddit, user Average650 explains one major problem with the Surface Pro 4 after the updates.

“So yesterday, about when I installed the newest drivers for my Surface, my touchscreen has stopped working. It works fine on the UEFI screen, and it will occasionally work, but 95% of the time it’s completely non-responsive. I can’t figure out how to remove these newly installed drivers. Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone know how to fix it?”

At the Windows Central forums, users are having similar problems with the Surface Book.
“My Surface Book touch screen has stopped working. I’ve been through all of the suggestions on the Microsoft website such as disabling and renabling [sic] HID touch screen drivers, even deleting them and restarting to automatically reinstall. The screen works on the boot screen (volume up and power), but not in Windows 10, so it’s not a hardware fault,” a guest contributor complains.

Several other commenters are having the same problems. However, the problem isn’t widespread or serious. The author of this article has updated the Surface Book with all of the latest drivers and the only time the touchscreen doesn’t work is when — at times — it’s detached from the base keyboard. However, everything else works fine.

Speaking of the Surface Book 2, there have been a lot of rumors that Microsoft’s next device won’t be released until next year. Ecumenical News is one of those sources.

“Initially, it was suggested by media outlets that the Surface Book 2 would be introduced this year, but now, recent reports claim that fans will likely see the Surface Book 2 next year.”

As the article points out, Microsoft is expected to fix some of the design issues it ran into with the first Surface Book, which was released in late October of 2015. Other improvements include an upgrade to a 4K screen, an upgraded Kaby Lake processor, improved battery life, and an added USB-C port — something which has become common among new laptops recently released.

The Surface Pro 5 is said to feature most of the same improvements. Microsoft has finally hit the hot spot again with the Surface line after years of irrelevancy. Do you own a Surface Book or Surface Pro 4? Let us know if the updates have hurt or helped your device in the comments section.
