Meat Loaf Collapses Onstage While Performing In Canada, Video Has Fans Begging The Rock Gods Not To Take Another Music Icon In 2016

Singer Meat Loaf collapsed onstage during a concert in Edmonton, Canada tonight. According to USA Today, Meat Loaf was performing his classic “I Would Do Anything for Love” when he suddenly fell to the stage, leaving concertgoers confused about whether or not Loaf was throwing some dramatic flare into the set or actually suffering from a health event.

Meat Loaf, whose real name is Michael Lee Aday, is best known for the rock trilogy of Bat Out of Hell I, II, and III, which have sold over 40 million copies worldwide. Meat is also known for his theatrical stage presence and is considered one of the founding fathers of the rock opera.

Loaf’s ability to convey so many emotions onstage led him to a limited career in acting, as well as music, including Meat Loaf’s role in the cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Fans who were attending the Meat Loaf concert at the Northern Jubilee Auditorium in Edmonton took to Twitter to share images of the singer sprawled out the stage.

Fans were more distraught and hoping the recovery of Meat Loaf as they were evacuated from the venue so EMS could render aid. While there is no update on Loaf’s condition or what might have been the cause of the collapse, given the robust size of Meat and a couple of videos, it looks to possibly cardiac-related.

A tweet posted by ABC7 out of Los Angeles shows Meat Loaf slowly crumpling to the floor as his band rushes to his aid.

But, it was a tweet by a fan who was close to the stage that showed Meat Loaf clearly clutching his chest and having difficulty moving.

This isn’t the first time that Meat Loaf has collapsed during a concert, however. The 68-year-old Loaf has been known to push himself to the point of exhaustion and experienced a similar even in 2003 after suffering from a virus. It was later discovered that Meat Loaf needed heart surgery to correct a defect for a congenital heart issue known as Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome, which caused Meat to have an irregular heartbeat. Whether or not today’s collapse is cardiac-related, Meat Loaf certainly fits the profile for someone at risk for heart problems.

That said, Meat Loaf recently canceled two performances on his Canadian tour this week due to an undisclosed illness. It’s also quite possible Meat Loaf is simply suffering from exhaustion and hadn’t completely gotten well from whatever illness had been ailing him.

In the year that has seen the death of music icons such as David Bowie, Prince, and Glenn Frey it’s understandable why fans might be on edge. Meat Loaf’s sentinel presence in 1970s rock music made him an icon in his own right. Fans are more than likely hoping that Meat Loaf doesn’t join the growing ranks of what has turned out to be a year of heartbreak for music fans.

Meat Loaf’s fans were begging the rock gods to be gentle with the giant:

Fans are undoubtedly hoping that when it comes to dying, Meat Loaf would do anything for love but he won’t do that.

Get well Loaf!
