CBS Nabs Beverly Hills Cop TV Show

Are you ready for the next Beverly Hills Cop? Well, CBS sure is! Last October it seemed as if all hopes of a Beverly Hills Cop film were banished when Eddie Murphy spoke with Rolling Stone, saying in an interview, “None of the movie scripts were right; it was trying to force the premise. If you have to force something, you shouldn’t be doing it. It was always a rehash of the old thing. It was always wrong.”

However, now the Beverly Hills Cop franchise has found new life, and this time, it’s in a television series. Murphy who hypothesized about a TV show last year said, “What I’m trying to do now is produce a TV show starring Axel Foley’s son, and Axel is the chief of police now in Detroit. I’d do the pilot, show up here and there.”

It’s been months later and according to a report, Murphy teamed up with Shawn Ryan, who is the creator of “The Shield” to create a television show based on Beverly Hills Cop. Although cop shows are now a dime a dozen, the show is being described as, “an hourlong crime procedural with strong comedic elements.”

It looks like Murphy got his wish and the series will be based around Axel Foley’s son, Aaron, who is a blue-collar police officer, and is trying to make a legacy and name for himself without the help of his father’s prominent help.

Although Eddie Murphy is an executive producer on the show, he won’t be the star. However, he will make a few guest appearances as Axel, including the pilot and a few episodes in the first season. It is said that CBS has decided to pick up the pilot episode.

Are you excited for this possible series?
