Pornhub Is Now Creating Narrated Porn For Blind Audiences, And It’s Surprisingly Erotic

Pornhub, one of the most popular and innovative video pornography sites on the net, has recently modified some of its content to reach a huge audience of people who have not previously been able to enjoy the sensual experience Pornhub videos provide. That huge, untapped audience consists of those who are visually impaired and have not traditionally used Pornhub because they cannot see the action going on onscreen. Pornhub’s method of delivering porn’s sensuality without necessitating sight is simple, yet surprisingly sexy.

Uproxx was one of the first to report that the no-sight-required videos make up a new category on Pornhub called “described video.” As the name of the category suggests, the Pornhub clips it contains are described while they are being played.

This does not mean one of the “described videos” will have its video track, or even its original audio track, cut out. Instead, the original audio is lowered significantly so the Pornhub narrator’s voice can be heard over the sound.

The videos are adapted versions of Pornhub’s 50 most popular videos of all time, and they are fleshed out verbally in great detail, with the Pornhub-commissioned speaker making sure to stress erotic details, like how beautiful the video’s actress is or how large the actor’s assets are (e.g. “Cut to a side shot inside the cab… A girl gets in, black hair, lots of makeup, and squeezing a nice curvy figure into a tight blue dress”).

Surprisingly, though, Pornhub did not recruit a squad of voice actors whose voices give off “porn bro” or “sexy vixen” vibes to narrate. In fact, Pornhub’s choices for its “described videos” content, who are all female, sound more like the straight-laced, middle-aged female voices one might expect to hear on a phonics recording — a fact that only adds to the strangely erotic, “forbidden” feel that feminist pornographer Candida Royalle suggests is what makes porn carry such weight. Is this an intentional decision on Pornhub’s part?

The video below is a PG-rated look at a compilation of “described videos” clips that will give you a better idea of what Pornhub’s new olfactory stories entail.

Of course, Pornhub’s “described videos” were just recently released, and there is not enough data yet to tell how they are being received, but Pornhub Vice President Corey Price has big hopes for the innovation.

After all, there are more than 285 million blind or visually impaired people in the world. If Pornhub can capture even a small percentage of that number, its 60 million users per day would suddenly gain a considerable amount of additions.

“At Pornhub, it’s our goal to service all of our users’ needs, which begins with making content accessible to every individual” he says in an interview with The Guardian about Pornhub’s most recent innovation.

“This initiative is meant to mark the start of a larger dialogue surrounding accessibility and our site and how we can do better.”

He goes on to say that he thinks the appeal of Pornhub’s creation will not start and end with visually impaired users; porn-surfers with 20/20 vision may also find Pornhub’s “described videos” to be more titillating than traditional adult fare.

“Will they like it more than the videos they are accustomed to? You never know. Some just might,” the Pornhub VP smiled.

Price also makes it clear that, especially while Pornhub’s “described audio” experiment is still new, the company is looking for feedback from anyone, both visually impaired and otherwise, who has seen the videos and has any ideas on how Pornhub’s new videos might be improved.

“We encourage our users to check out our newest category and provide feedback based on their experience. With programs like this, we hope to open the door and inspire our community members, content partners and other platforms to create more content with the differently-abled user in mind.”
