‘Vikings’ Season 4: Will The Show Return In July?

The longer History Channel keeps silent about the Season 4 return of Vikings, the more fans are jumping at any information in regard to the return date. The latest theory is that Vikings will return on July 7. But how true is this?

Thanks to an entry on IMDb, fans have gotten excited about the potential return date for the second half of Season 4 of Vikings. According to the episode guide for Season 4, Episode 11 will premiere on July 7.

IMDb is the acronym for the Internet Movie Database. It is an excellent source for information such as when you really need to know what shows your favorite actor has starred in and how many series there are in the TV show you are currently binge watching, as well as general production information on most movies and TV shows. IMDb can be an invaluable tool in this regard; however, it is not always 100 percent accurate.

So while IMDb is quite often the first place many go to in order to get information on TV shows, such as Vikings, and it is usually reliable, users need to be aware that sometimes information is incorrect. Sometimes TV networks withhold information that could lead to spoilers in upcoming TV shows. Both AMC and HBO have been known to do this in order to keep spoilers out of shows that are based on written source material where just by adding a character name could spoil a whole upcoming storyline.

Another thing to note is the fact that anyone can sign up and become a contributor on IMDb, much in the same way people can contribute to Wikipedia. According to IMDb’s Contributor page, “a contributor is anyone who submits information for display on the site.” However, there are checks in place to ensure the information being submitted is correct, including a “Database Content Team” who checks all information before it is published.

In the instance of the entry on IMDb’s Vikings Season 4 page, since this is the only source containing this information, fans need to check the information against other reliable sources. Traditionally, History Channel’s official Vikings Facebook and Twitter pages have been used when it comes to announcements about the show. A quick glance at the Vikings Facebook page shows the most recent post with a video of King Ecbert (Linus Roache) and the caption, “I would sup with the devil himself.” Underneath this post, fans are asking when Season 4 of Vikings will return. History Channel is maintaining the same mantra they have since the mid-season finale of Vikings, “Season 4 of #Vikings will return later this year with more episodes!”

So, according to the Facebook page, Vikings will return later in the year, but History Channel still hasn’t issued a start date. Their Twitter account’s most recent posts only show images and gifs from Vikings and their new documentary series, Barbarians Rising. While, at first, it seems unusual for History Channel to use their official Vikings Twitter account for another show, Barbarians Rising actually contains actors who previously starred in Vikings as well also being in a show that might appeal to people who enjoy history-based shows such as Vikings.

But, perhaps Barbarians Rising is the source of the July 7 start date for the Season 4 return of Vikings? After all, Barbarians Rising concludes on June 27. While this show airs on Monday nights and Vikings usually airs on Thursday nights, perhaps the assumption has been made Vikings will return the week after the final episode of Barbarians Rising? Or, perhaps, the Season 4 return of Vikings will be announced at the conclusion of Barbarians Rising?

So, as yet, fans can only speculate as to when Season 4 of Vikings returns. When do you think the show will return? Let us know your thoughts and theories by commenting below!

The second half of Season 4 of Vikings will return to History Channel later in 2016. The show has also been renewed for Season 5 in 2017.
