John Cena, Sasha Banks, And Ultimate Warrior Confirmed For ‘WWE 2K17’

Developer 2K’s upcoming wrestling game, WWE 2K17, is set to be released this coming October, and typically, we don’t know which WWE stars will be featured in the game until SummerSlam weekend in August. However, 2K is doing things a little bit differently this year, and they’ve already named three WWE stars — one current star, a WWE Diva, and a WWE Hall of Famer — who will be featured in this year’s game.

First up, to the surprise of no one, is John Cena. Obviously, 2K couldn’t make a wrestling game without WWE’s biggest star.

Second, we have WWE Hall of Famer The Ultimate Warrior, who has been in each of the last three WWE video games.

Third, we have former NXT Women’s Champion Sasha Banks, who will be making her very first appearance in WWE’s annual video game, and she’s pretty excited about it.

WWE fans expressed their frustration when they found out that the Four Horsewomen of WWE — Sasha Banks, Charlotte, Becky Lynch, and Bayley — wouldn’t be included in last year’s WWE 2K16. Now that Sasha has been confirmed for this year’s game, it’s probably safe to assume that Becky, Charlotte, and Bayley will all be included as well.

It’s unclear which other WWE and NXT stars will be in this year’s game. Most are hoping that 2K will include recent WWE signees like AJ Styles, Shinsuke Nakamura, Karl Anderson, and Luke Gallows in the game, but they may actually not end up being in the game.

Last month, it was announced that Bill Goldberg will be this year’s pre-order bonus for WWE 2K17. He was introduced in a pretty big way during an episode of Monday Night Raw a few weeks back.

Goldberg’s WWE 2K17 commercial teased a match between the former WCW Champion and Brock Lesnar, which led many to believe that the two men will once again clash at next year’s WrestleMania 33. Of course, their first encounter at WrestleMania 20 was memorable for all of the wrong reasons, as it’s considered to be one of the worst matches in WrestleMania history.

It’s worth noting that 2K wasn’t given any direction by WWE for the commercial, and the tease for Brock Lesnar vs. Goldberg was done by them. As of right now, WWE has no plans of doing Brock Lesnar vs. Goldberg at WrestleMania 33 in Orlando next year.

In an interview discussing his involvement in WWE 2K17, Goldberg said that he could wrestle about 50 more times if he wanted to. However, he made it clear that WWE hasn’t contacted him to do one more match and that it’s likely that you’ll only see him in a WWE ring via WWE 2K17.

“I’ve got 50 more [matches] in me. It just depends on the ability to keep it up to my standards. I love everybody to death and I greatly appreciate their opinions, but none of it matters except for mine, because I hold myself to such high standards.”

Developer 2K is planning on slowly revealing their roster over the next several weeks. Expect a lot more wrestlers to be announced over the next month.

Last year’s game had the largest roster in the history of the franchise, and this year’s roster will probably be even larger than last year’s.

As of this writing, 2K still hasn’t announced what the theme of the game will be. Last year’s game was based on the career of “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, and this year’s may be based on the career of recently retired WWE star Daniel Bryan, who may actually end up being on the cover of this year’s game.
