‘Star Wars’ Fan Theories Awaken Once More Over Rey’s Parents, Other Loose Threads [Spoilers]

Some more Star Wars fan theories have risen through the mystery surrounding Episode VIII, one of which revolves around Rey’s parents. Although The Force Awakens was considered by many fans to be a copy of A New Hope, it left a lot of story-line points unresolved, such as who Rey’s parents really are. There was no revelation anywhere in the film indicating where she came from. Her introduction was almost the equivalent of Mad Max, if you skip the first film.

An early theory involved the possibility that Rey’s parents may have been Luke Skywalker and a woman we haven’t seen yet. Star Wars: The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams had shot the idea down, and later backtracked, saying that “she doesn’t discover them in Episode 7. Not that they may not already be in her world.”

It seems unusual that J.J. Abrams would contradict himself after previously stating that Rey’s parents weren’t “in Episode 7.” It may very well be that whoever is writing Star Wars VIII is dealing with Rey’s backstory and decided to make her a Skywalker, after all. The truth is that nothing is being leaked ahead of time, and security surrounding the set is even protected against drones. Mark Hamill revealed this fact when he was involved with the filming of The Force Awakens.

Rey meets Luke Skywalker for the first time at the end of Episode VII, and since Star Wars was created to be a family saga, that means that Rey might be part of that family and not know it.

A new fan theory is that Rey was possibly created by followers of the dark side to be a clone of Darth Vader. Clones are nothing new to the franchise, having been the focus of Episode II, and Anakin has been the common thread holding the series together. Rey was also seen “discovering” the technique of Force persuasion, proving that she may be more powerful than we’ve seen.

The clone theory would certainly explain why Kylo Ren reacted so strongly to his officer mentioning “her,” and why he didn’t kill her when he had the chance.

Another fan theory surrounding Star Wars VIII is that Han Solo will get a funeral. He was killed off in The Force Awakens without much fanfare, and the fans will probably want closure. The legendary captain of the Millennium Falcon was almost forgotten after his son stuck a lightsaber through his chest and threw him off a bridge into the bowels of the planet.

It’s also a possibility that Leia will be written out early in the next film, with a sudden attack by the Order killing her off, as well. It was suggested by an IMDb user who claims to have read the script, possibly defying the security which is undoubtedly surrounding the film.

“It’s unfortunately true that they’ve [minimized] her screen time by writing her out after an attack early on. But the really cool thing about the sequence is that Leia survives only because she uses the Force.”

This would only leave Luke Skywalker, Chewbacca, and the droids as the remaining cast from the original trilogy.

A video was posted to Reddit recently, possibly revealing the official subtitle to the next Star Wars as Fall of the Resistance. Keep it in mind that Episode VI was originally called Revenge of the Jedi, and it could change.

We won’t know anything for sure until the film hits next year.
