‘Pretty Little Liars’ Network Drops Bombshell, Confirms Season 7 Will End ‘PPL As We Know It’

Pretty Little Liars upcoming Season 7 is rumored to be the last season of the popular Freeform show, and a network statement this week seemed to confirm that theory.

According to Hollywood Life, Freeform responded to the rumors that Pretty Little Liars Season 7 will be the show’s last with a bombshell announcement. While the network did not rule out the show’s renewal for one more season, fans can expect to be in for a wild ride during this season.

“This is the end of PLL as we know it. This will be a very suspenseful season with reveals nearly each week, like nothing we’ve seen before. There has been no official decision made for PLL beyond a season 7.”

The rumors about the ending to Pretty Little Liars started anew this week when actress Troian Bellisario’s real-life fiance, Patrick J. Adams, let slip that the couple will wed as the popular Freeform show ends its run.

“I’m really excited to be married to Troian! We’ve been together a long time, it’s long overdue. Our relationship, it basically expands the length of our shows. Our anniversary is the day she got back from shooting the pilot of Pretty Little Liars. She got home and we had our first date together. So the fact that the show is coming to an end this year, and after that we’ll be hopefully be walking to getting married and starting the next chapter of our lives together, it’s pretty cool. The fact that we’ve made that work over the amount of distance and time, it’s a testament to what we can do together.”

The rumors that Pretty Little Liars Season 7 would serve as the show’s last have been swirling for more than a year. Marlene King, the showrunner for the popular series, dropped hints last year after the big reveal of “A” in the mid-season finale that Season 7 could serve as the show’s last, according to previous Inquisitr reports.

If Pretty Little Liars ends after this season, the actresses who play on the series are readying for life after the show. Shay Mitchell, who plays Emily Fields, has already branched out to other projects, including appearing in this year’s Mother’s Day film in a featured role and writing a book. Recently, the starlet joined Michael Strahan to fill in for Kelly Ripa on Live! With Kelly and Michael, the Inquisitr reported.

In addition to Troian Bellisario, Sasha Pieterse is also planning a wedding in the near future. Hudson Sheaffer asked Sasha Pieterse, who plays Allison DiLaurentis, to marry him late last year, leaving the Pretty Little Liars actress engaged both on- and off-screen.

Whether Season 7 will be the finale of the series or not, fans of Pretty Little Liars can expect to see some old and new faces this season. One person fans will recognize immediately is Lindsey Shaw, who is better known to PPL audiences as Paige McCullers.

Lindsey Shaw hasn’t been on the series since the first episode that aired in 2015, and her two seasons away from Pretty Little Liars has fans speculating about her role. Bustle is reporting that Paige’s return could spark a reunion with ex-lover Emily, but fans will have to wait until the eighth episode of the season to see Shaw’s character return.

New cast members to the show include a new detective joining Rosewood’s police force, Entertainment Weekly reported. Nicholas Gonzalez will bring to life Marco Furey, a character Marlene King suggested could be the town’s most successful cop yet.

“I told [Nicholas] that Mona and Spencer are probably the smartest of all the Pretty Little Liars, and he is their equal. He is the first cop that’s come to town who could compete intellectually with those two characters.”
