New ‘Star Wars’ Games Discussed In This EA Video From E3

New Star Wars games are on the way, and today at E3, EA released a new video providing an update on what’s happening with its work with the beloved franchise. The company said the games will explore different Star Wars eras in different gaming genres on different platforms.

EA ran down its plans for new Star Wars games in 2016 on its EA Play site.

“The team at DICE are continuing to add more of the content players want to Star Wars™ Battlefront, with free content and three more digital expansion packs coming by the end of the year – Star Wars BattlefrontBespin, Star Wars Battlefront Death Star and a final pack in December we’re all especially excited about. And for VR fans, DICE is also working with Criterion on an exclusive Star Wars Battlefront VR mission for PlayStation VR this year.”

“With Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes, the team at Capital Games has already delivered a deep Star Wars mobile experience featuring iconic characters and locations from every corner of the Star Wars universe. With new features like guilds, raids and chat added this spring, and more new updates planned for the year, players will have a ton of new content to experience for a long time to come. This December, BioWare will celebrate the 5th anniversary of Star Wars: The Old Republic and the game keeps getting better. You can expect more of BioWare’s high quality, story-driven content and new game features throughout the year.”

Next year will see the next installment of Star Wars Battlefront, which is currently in development at DICE in collaboration with Motive Studios. Motive Studios says it has been listening to all of the feedback it has received, while also “innovating in new areas.”

2018 will include a new Star Wars action adventure game from Visceral Games. This will include “an original, authentic narrative in the Star Wars universe,” according to the post.

Respawn Entertainment is also working on a 3rd person action adventure game, which EA says features a different style of gameplay and takes place in a different timeline than what EA has done before. Other unnamed projects are also in pre-production.

According to The Verge, DICE is also working with Criterion on an exclusive Star Wars Battlefront VR mission for PlayStation VR this year, which apparently puts the player in the cockpit of an X-Wing.

As Kotaku implies, nobody is all that surprised that there are so many new Star Wars games in development, but for fans of the franchise, there is certainly a whole lot to look forward to in the video game space alone. That doesn’t even take into account the ever-expanding feature film catalog, books, comics, TV shows, etc. As far as the movies, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is due out on December 16. The proper follow-up to last year’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens is expected to hit theaters sometime in 2017.

New Star Wars games aren’t the only games tied to a major film franchise with news coming out of E3. As the Inquisitr reported earlier, Friday the 13th: The Game will soon stream its gameplay world premiere from the event.
