Samsung Veyron: What is this Secret Code-Named Samsung Clamshell Smartphone?

Samsung is up to something new yet again. What could be brewing under #TheNextBigThing idea factory?

Apparently, Samsung has been distributing clamshell smartphones in China and their latest secret project is code-named “Veyron.”

Last year, Samsung has another clamshell smartphone named W2016. The W2015 is a flip phone that touted impressive specs and premium build. It came as a surprise considering that the Galaxy S6 at the time was receiving feedback regarding the fickleness of the smartphone.

The W2016 has been officially released to China Mobile alongside Samsung Galaxy J3, which is a closely comparable product to the Galaxy J5.

The flip phone has a 3.9? Super AMOLED display. Being a flip phone, it has a 64-bit octa-core Exynos 7420 processor and 3GB RAM. Unlike the new Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, the W2016 actually has 64GB internal storage.

As if that was not enough, the innovative flip phone also has a 16MP rear and 5MP front cameras, still moving far ahead of the Galaxy S7 series that only have 12MP rear cameras.

The modern flip phone is run by Android 5.1.1 Lollipop and it has a 2,000 mAh battery. The phone also has a premium design finish with its metal glass feel.

Unfortunately for flip phone fanatics, this clamshell smartphone is only available in China. At our modern day, most of the consumer markets do not have high demand for flip phones, except for China and other Asian countries.

Meanwhile, Samsung might be prepping for something bigger this year as it was reported that they have a new clamshell smartphone in the works. This specific SM-W2017, code-named “Veyron,” will reportedly be an upgrade of the W2016.

There are no confirmation yet on whether this will also be a flip phone like the phone last year, but it will have a 3.9? HD Super AMOLED display. With Exynos 8890 processor, 12MP rear and 5MP front camera, the “Veyron” may still be hiding something new.

Since Samsung is aligning their products to the new Galaxy S7 series, this clamshell phone might be as well. There are no official statements yet, but some speculate that this “Veyron” project will emulate the dust and water-resistant features of the Galaxy S7 line.

With the successful introduction of the Samsung Galaxy S7 Active in the market, it is not that difficult for Samsung to create an extremely durable clamshell phone.

The “Veyron” might also run under Android OS. There is very limited information about the new “Veyron” project, but this type of prototype reminds us of the beginning of the Samsung Galaxy line.

If the Chinese market welcomes “Veyron” with open arms, Samsung might find ways to distribute this globally.

Watch out for more updates on Samsung’s “Veyron” project.
