Christina Grimmie Killed By Apparent ‘Deranged Fan’ Who Traveled To Orlando On A Mission [Update]
Christina Grimmie is dead after a man showed up at her Orlando concert and shot her. The former Voice contestant was killed by a “deranged fan” who showed up at the concert venue with one thing on his mind: Killing Christina. According to TMZ, police have just recently revealed that they don’t believe that the 27-year-old white male shooter had any previous contact with Grimmie. However, the murder did appear to be premeditated.
“There is no apparent connection between Grimmie and the killer. He showed up to her concert Friday night with 2 handguns, 2 loaded magazines and a large hunting knife. There were no metal detectors at the venue.”
Christina Grimmie was killed by a gunshot wound during a meet-and-greet after her show. The fan, whose name has not yet been released by authorities, traveled to Orlando from another city within Florida. Police say that the man “had plans to return home” after murdering Christina, but he also died at the venue. While early reports indicated that the shooter may have died following an altercation/struggle with Christina’s brother, police say that it does look like he killed himself.
“That would be speculation, but that’s what it’s looking like. There’s no indication that he knew her, we’re looking into that to try and find a motive for the crime.”
Following Christina Grimmie’s murder, police have obtained search warrants to enter the deceased shooter’s home. There, they will conduct a full investigation and look for any evidence that would confirm their preliminary theories. The shooter’s computer is one of the most important things that will be looked at in depth. Police are also hoping to locate the shooter’s cell phone.
Christina Grimmie competed on Season 6 of The Voice. She made it pretty far on Team Adam, coming in third in the competition overall. According to Gossip Cop, Adam Levine released the following statement after learning that Grimmie had been killed.
“Behati and I are absolutely devastated and heartbroken by Christina Grimmie’s tragic death. Our hearts go out to her family. Christina was a natural, a gifted talent that comes along so rarely. She was taken from us too soon. This is yet another senseless act of extreme violence. I am left stunned and confused how these things can conceivably continue to happen in our world.”
Before finding out that Grimmie had died, Levine posted the following on Instagram.
The name of the man who killed Christina Grimmie is expected to be released “in a few hours.” Further details about a motive and more about what exactly happened at the meet and greet will be released by police over the coming days.
