Marshals Seize Tainted Skin Products After Maker Refuses To Destroy Them

Washington, D.C. (AHN) – Skin sanitizers and protectants believed contaminated with bacteria have been seized from their Utah manufacturer by U.S. Marshals.
The marshals, acting over the weekend on a request by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, seized the products made by Clarcon Biological Chemical Laboratory, Inc., of Roy, Utah. Clarcon had voluntarily recalled the sanitizers and protectants in June after the FDA found bacteria in the products that could cause skin infections
In a statement, the agency said the items were being seized because Clarcon had refused to destroy them.
In June, the FDA also reported finding “serious deviations” from government regulations regarding good manufacturing practices.
The FDA said Clarcon had sold more than 800,000 bottles of the sanitizers and protectants since 2007. Consumers with any of the products should throw them away, the FDA advised.
A list of potentially contaminated products include the following: Citrushield Lotion, Dermasentials DermaBarrier, Dermassentials by Clarcon Antimicrobial Hand Sanitizer, Iron Fist Barrier Hand Treatment, Skin Shield Restaurant, Skin Shield Industrial, Skin Shield Beauty Salon Lotion, Total Skin Care Beauty and Total Skin Care Work
