A former senior aide to Capitol Hill Democrats was charged this week with allegedly sexually assaulting two women after slipping drugs into their drinks.

According to a report in the Washington Post, the suspect was indicted in D.C. Superior Court on 10 counts of first- and second-degree sexual abuse:

“Donny Ray Williams Jr., 36, who served as staff director for a Senate subcommittee and worked in the offices of several members of Congress, gave at least one woman Ambien and assaulted her while she was unconscious, according to court papers.”

Evidently one of the alleged incidents dates back to July 2010. The NBC D.C. affiliate reports that Williams entered a plea of not guilty yesterday during a court hearing.

Williams was quoted by the Post outside the courthouse as denying the charges and referring to them as “absolutely and completely false.” He added that “I have never done anything to hurt anybody.”

As a former U.S. Congress employee, Williams was the staff director for a subcommittee of the Senate’s Homeland Security Committee. Prior to that, he held staff positions with a number of Democrat lawmakers such as Sen. Mary Landrieu, Sen. Joseph Lieberman (who now refers to himself as an independent), Sen Herb Kohl, and Reps. Jan Schakowsky and Elijah Cummings. He also apparently worked in the Obama administration for nearly two years in the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

A court trial on the sexual assault charges is scheduled for March 19, 2013.

The Weekly Standard claims that the original Post story omitted mentioning that Williams only worked for Democrats, but the Post article appears to have been updated with that information.
