Canada Goose And Bald Eagle Fight Pictures: Viral Photo Show Epic Battle Between Two Birds

Pictures of a fight between a bald eagle and Canada goose have gone viral, showing an epic battle between the two symbolic birds that had a twist ending.

The fight took place on the Canada goose’s home turf in Vancouver, British Columbia. Local resident Lisa Bell was out for a walk when she heard a commotion at a nearby pond. She arrived to find the bald eagle perched over the Canada goose, which appeared to be dead.

There was a twist, however, and Bell noted that the goose had a seemingly miraculous comeback.

“It was very still, there was no more noise coming out of him,” Bell told Global News. “But as it turns out, I think he was probably playing dead.”

Bell noted that the bald eagle lost its grip on the goose, which managed to wiggle free and escape. The eagle gave chase, but the goose was able to get away free.

Photos of the fight between the bald eagle and Canada goose were shared to Facebook, where they quickly went viral. Within a day, the story was international news and even one of the top trending stories on Facebook.

While the Canada goose that escaped the grasp of the bald eagle may have been cunning, other viral stories featuring the large and long-necked bird have shown it to be feisty and territorial. As anyone who ever walked around a pond knows, geese can be loud and aggressive, especially when they have little ones to protect.

That was the case earlier this year when 5-year-old Summer Gidden tried to help an injured gosling near her home in Houston. The girl was trying to aid the bird when a larger goose, likely the gosling’s mother, launched a fierce attack on the girl.

Summer’s sister caught photos of the goose’s attack, which sent the girl crashing to the pavement (but ultimately leaving her unhurt).

Click2Houston reported that Summer had her heart in the right place, trying to help a gosling that appeared to be falling behind its siblings. She was one of a couple kids who tried to help the birds, but it was the slower Summer who got the brunt of the attack, her sister noted.

“They were following it to make sure it was OK, and apparently, they got a little too close because the momma goose went after them,” her sister said of the attack. “Summer was the littlest and the slowest, so the goose got her.”

Photos of the goose attack went viral on Twitter, with more than 45,000 retweets and 59,000 likes.

Summer’s sister said the attack ended up being funny — once they realized the girl would be OK.

“Summer got attacked by a duck today & the pictures our neighbor got of it happening make me laugh so hard,” Gidden tweeted.

Summer didn’t seem too upset, and her sister even said the young girl was “eating up” the attention she got from the goose attack.

There are actually a number of other viral photos and videos of goose attacks, enough that BuzzFeed was able to compile them all into one convenient list.

Many Facebook commenters seemed amused by the pictures of the Canada goose vs. bald eagle fight as well, with some turning it into a battle between American and Canadian symbols. The fact that there was no clear victor left it open to interpretation as well, with some giving the victory to the bald eagle for downing the Canada goose and others believing the goose got the better of the battle with its crafty escape.
