Around 50 Dogs Rescued From A Puppy Mill In Tennessee Were Forced To Live In Deplorable Conditions

A heartbreaking situation in Tennessee has prompted the Animal Rescue Corps to be called out to a puppy mill in Gibson County. There were approximately 50 dogs rescued on Tuesday, involving mostly smaller breeds that were forced to live in unspeakable conditions for their whole lives. This breeding facility is located about two hours west of Nashville.

The rescue came after an inspection by the Gibson County Sheriff’s Department where they had discovered cages containing the dogs that were living in their own urine and feces, which violated both the state and local animal cruelty codes. According to the press release by the Animal Rescue Corps, they were also not in their own individual cages, but they were stacked in small cages, making it even worse for them. There were two larger pooches that were found roaming around on the property as well.

They also located two dogs that had already died. One of them was found to be in a cage with two other canines. These kinds of conditions cause diseases and other ailments that are detrimental to animals. Living in this horrendous place has brought on worms, parasites, urine scalding, mange, runny eyes, and alopecia. In addition, the dogs rescued were found to be severely dehydrated and suffering from emaciation.

The Animal Rescue Corps and the Gibson Sheriff’s Department had previously teamed up on another similar case involving abuse and neglect thanks to puppy mills such as this one. Sheriff Paul Thomas made this statement regarding this recent case.

“Cruelty and abuse, whether inflicted on a person or animal, will not be tolerated in this county. We are, once again, grateful to Animal Rescue Corps for being a resource for our community to address these large scale cases of abuse.”

In addition, the BISSELL Pet Foundation stepped in to help financially with this rescue. They also provided extra assistance that was needed to help deal with this deplorable situation.

The owner of this puppy mill has been charged with 50 counts of animal cruelty. She even admitted that she knew for a while about the dead dog that was kept in the cage with the other ones, but hadn’t done anything about it. The rescued breeds included Maltese, Shih-Tzus, Chihuahuas, Brussels Griffon, Boston Terriers, Poodles, and Yorkshire Terriers. None of them should have been exposed to a life full of pain and loneliness.

President of the Animal Rescue Corps, Scotlund Haisley, described just what it was like for those dogs that have been so horribly treated for the sake of someone who was out to make as much money as possible without giving any thought to their welfare.

“These dogs have been locked in a cage their whole lives and forced to have litter after litter. They have never known what it’s like to be a dog. Most of them have never felt the ground beneath their feet or a kind touch.”

An emergency shelter has been set up in Lebanon, Tennessee for these 48 dogs. Once there, they are expected to get a thorough checkup and treatments that are deemed necessary to get them as healthy as they should have been in the first place. They will then be sent to various shelters that will make sure that all of them get adopted into forever homes to be loved and cared for the rest of their lives.

Just a few days ago, another rescue of 20 abused and neglected dogs, along with other various animals, happened in Morgan County, Tennessee. As reported by the Tennessean, a breeder had left the canines in a house with no food or water to drink, and they were said to be near death before they were evacuated. They were also transported to the facility in Lebanon for expert care. They have their hands full with these additional animals in their care, but their job is to get them treated as soon as possible to get them into organizations that will get them adopted.

In order to help with veterinary costs and the rescue expenses, donations can be made through Facebook for the Animal Rescue Corps. They will also keep everyone updated on how the dogs rescued are doing and will be posting info in the next few days on how you can adopt these dogs in the near future.
