Honey Boo Boo Scores Better Ratings Than Republican National Convention

Posted: August 31, 2012

honey boo boo child

Marco Rubio stirred the crowd with a powerful speech, Clint Eastwood talked to an empty chair, and Mitt Romney accepted the GOP’s nomination for the President of the United States at the Republican National Convention last night. Still, the RNC couldn’t top TLC’s Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.

Yes, that’s right. When given the choice between watching the nation’s top politicians speak at the Republican National Convention and watching Honey Boo Boo and her self-proclaimed redneck family go mud wrestling, America chose Honey Boo Boo Child.

The Huffington Post reports that the new TLC show pulled in nearly 3 million viewers during last night’s episode. Fox News brought in a total of 7.7 million viewers but only 1.2 million when the RNC went up against Honey Boo Boo during the 10 pm slot.

The Hollywood Reporter writes:

“In the demo, Honey Boo Boo did even better. The half-hour series’ showing among adults 18-49 bested all other cable outings for the night — including coverage of the Republican National Convention — to pull a 1.3 rating.”

Did you watch Here Comes Honey Boo Boo last night? What about the RNC?

Both programs had a few enjoyable highlights. At the RNC, Clint Eastwood talked to an invisible President Obama who was sitting in an empty chair. On Honey Boo Boo, the former toddler in a tiara and her father Sugar Bear struggled to put together a baby crib.

Really, you couldn’t make a bad choice.

  1. Seriously it makes me sad on how these people are making money off of being complete gross idiots!!! Its not about their looks either but how about the fact that the little"honey boo boo"is nothing but an ungrateful mouthy brat and her mother should be ashamed of how she dresses her. There are plenty of other families that deserve to be making money off a reality show like families dealing with children who are sick with cancer and other terrible illnesses or how about the real life of soldiers and what they go through before, during, and after deployment, anything else would be better then a family who spends all their money on pageants for a little ungrateful brat!!

  2. You are very right! Love the profile pic….oh wait…wonder why? LOL

Well at least the Honey Boo boo child's family is being honest with America…..

  4. I do NOT like this show! I refuse to watch it. This family does not deserve to make money off of their lifestyle, which is totally stupid. TLC may loose a lot of viewers, I know they have lost me when it comes to this trash. Just redicilous!

Watched briefly, the kid is an obnoxious brat and her mother is so overweight she should get herself on the fat losing show.

Hopefully she is not on welfare and doing this to make money for her family. Hey bright side at least she is not a stripper teaching her child a trashy way of life. Just sayin

Seriously??? This show is a disgrace & them being Honest with America?? OMG that is funny! They should be reported to CPS this show and what they are doing is the same thing as abuse & it makes me sick ! TLC use to be about Learning and teaching not this crap! I don't and will not watch this show makes me sick and angry!

  8. After seeing the promo's, I know I would never watch this show.

  9. The video clip of putting the baby crib together was the most boring thing I have ever watched in my life. It was irritating me beyond belief that a screw was showing which was an indicator he was putting the bed together incorrectly. These people are redneck beyond any possible cure.

  10. I think "Honey Boo Boo Child" is more honest because it is genuine to who they are. The RNC is NOT honest with Americans. They war on women, children, gays – - basically anyone who isn't "just like them" – elitist rich white men. No one could offer me ANYTHING to watch the travesty that is the RNC. At least not until the religious freaks' control of the party is removed.

  11. The Mom needs to hook up with that Extrem Makeover weightloss edition. The kid is a brat. Way to go Mom. The show needs taken off the air. I don't think making money off of exploitation of your child is a good thing. Get a real job.

  13. Being a South Carolina resident, I find this show to be nauseating at the least. The child is WAY overweight and seems to be a snot nosed spoiled little brat who has never felt the sting of a belt on her butt. The parents should be ashamed to even show their disgusting life on national television. *Vomit*

I don't know. To me they are a normal family. Maybe they aren't as "refined" as what you are used to but I also think it depends on where you come from. They kind of let it all hang out but I think she is a good mom. I also think Alana is adorable. They may be different from your family but that doesn't make it wrong. They are supporting themselves, the kids are taken care of. I don't see anything wrong with them. I think people need to be less judgmental and focus on their own families. No one's family is perfect.

  18. I think they are awful parents! How they got a television show is beyond me and I will not watch their show. They give people from the south a bad name, southern people don't act like that! They act like idiot's with no manners and they teach their children the wrong message! They disgust me!

I didn't watch this, never heard of it, but just seeing the way she is dressed in this picture is just stupid!!!! What happened to good tv shows anyway? There has to be better things to watch I hope!! Ugh!!

    Way to put it Lori!!!

  21. Then why did you continue to watch the episode?

  22. I didn't. I believe I quit watching after 3 minutes.

This is just another SAD example of parents exploiting their child for money.

  24. If these people are such idiots as everyone implies then I would not think they would be smart enough to put together a deal and go to TLC with an idea for a show. TLC apparently approached this family from seeing them on Toddlers and Tiara's and approached them for a show so what would you do turn them down. I do not think they act any different than they do in real life and who are we to throw the first stone about stupidity or how someone looks and how fat someone is. People are so judgemental on looks good grief get over how people look, not everyone can be the Mary Poppins of the World! Either watch the show for what it is or turn the channel stop with all the critism. I suppose if TLC wanted to do reality shows on Cancer, and military families they would do so, and we should all ask ourselves have our children or we as children not acted like a spoiled ungrateful child at some point.

  25. I'm sure I have acted like a spoiled brat but thank the lord my parents disciplined me and taught me good morals and manners not let me on national television show its ok not to listen to your parents or be pigs and burp n pass gas!!!

  26. Beverly Chalas

no way is this a normal family… we don't raise kids like that she is a nasty little snot and needs to be straightened out.. a lot… its to bad cause its not her fault its there fault and yes she needs to watch what she eats and the rest of them also they are fat pigs..

  27. THEN YOUR NOT NORMAL.

  28. Please,.. take this white trailer trash off the air, if people watch this show it's because they can't believe what they're seeing.WHAT A WASTE OF AIR TIME.

  29. No it is not OK to do those things and act that way , but apparently the TLC producers think this behavior will make them money and I am sure they are right there encouraging all they can get out of this family for the camera. This show will pass in time, I can only hope the money the family makes will help educate this child to grow up with a good education where she will be taught about manners and morals, but it is still not up to us judge the standards of how this family lives. I guess you might say they were just in the right place at the right time and they got a TV show, so you either choose to watch or not.

  30. I refuse to watch a family exploit a child for personal financial gain. What happens to this little girl in a couple of years when Honey boo boo isn't so popular anymore? What happens when she has to deal with the real world? These parents should be totally ashamed of themselves a they are ruining this child's life.

Tell us how you really feel! Lol! Seriously though, I haven't seen the show, but I've seen the ads That poor little girl has "pole dancer" in her future. Unless she gets much chunkier. Sad, really.

I hate all beauty contests for children but this is the most obnoxious I've seen. And if the statistics in this article are true, then America deserves a leader like Obama—-we don't sense enough to run our own country.

I think it shows how ridiculous people have become to even waste the time watching this trash!!!!

  35. What bothers me is the direction in which TLC is going. It is supposed to be The Learning Channel. Are we supposed to walk away with what not to do? Is that the lesson they are attempting to teach us or is TLC trying to get away from what it originally set out to be – an informative cable channel?

  36. i love honey boo.boo.and.her red neck.family at least they are.out making something so she has a future.whice is more.than.anyone..on.here is prob doibg

  41. Donna Tingle Monroe
    Sep 1, 2012

    goofy mess

  42. Who really knows what was behind TLC decision to air this show, could it be they are trying to show us how a lot of other people live and act, this is not an isolated family, or maybe its the almighty dollar.

  43. Well put!

  44. I agree Barbie. I'll go one step further, i hate all beauty contests period. What are these women thinking? Don't they realize that major problems in this country and all over the world i think are caused by the pressure on women to be thin, beautiful, not too smart, etc. Absolutely disgusting to me.

  45. Ryn, all the things that raising Ladies meant went out the window as far and I can tell. And it's only going to get worse with shows like Jersey Shore and other of that ilk are promoted and popular with the younger generation. Like, I said. Absolutely disgusting. OK, I'll shut up. Can you people tell I don't like superficial things? Especially if it involves a woman demeaning herself. Whew. I need to take my blood pressure. LOL

  46. I agree with the opinions against this kind of program. It's disgusting! However, the bottom line is they're making enough $$$ to support the whole family and enough left over for probably most of Boo Boo's lifetime. $$$ is the root……etc.

God help America. If more people watched honeynbooboo this country is in a boat full of trouble.

  51. I didn't watch the show but can't help wondering how this little girl will feel about this when she is 16 or 18 and looks back at her mom and her life.

  52. Your normal must be far superior to the rest of us!

  53. Amy I agree with you! They are not bad parents but maybe they need a little more parenting skills and what parent couldn't use more parenting skills? Maybe they should have a little respect for letting and supporting their Daughter in what she likes to do! Try being a little less judgmental and a little more understanding! I have five children and I know myself personally I have two Son's that are Marines a Son that is living a good life and my Daughter just Graduated Cosmotology school and my 9 year old is doing very well in school! I am a divorced Mother and my Ex-Husband and I managed to coparent our four children and still remain friends! Our children came from a divorced family and not one of my children have ever done drugs or been in any trouble! I put my now 24 year old son in a pagent when he was a baby and I quickly found out that it was all about how much money you were willing to pay to this pagent determined if you won or not! So we never did that again, I didn't do it to gain money off of my child I did it because I thought he was just a Handsome Little Boy! I guess I am just like any other red blooded Mother in thinking that my child was just the most Beautiful Little Boy ever! You are correct Amy No Family is Perfect! So lets not judge lets maybe show a little compassion! I hope everyone has a Great Weekend and Labor Day

  54. People are watching this? Oh… "among adults 18-49." Says a lot for America's so-called adults. Are these people even speaking English?

  55. Glenda, I can tell you that I have noticed an impact all these reality shows have made on teens. As the mom of a 3 yr old daughter, I pray my influence can overcome such negativity. Where is our society going when we make people rich and reward them for bad behavior?

If it's true that "Honey Boo Boo" scores better ratings than the RNC, and that's how little Americans are interested in the political process, it's a darn wonder that our debt isn't over 15 Trillion Dollars …. OH WAIT ….. It IS over 15 Trillion Dollars …. never mind!!!

15 Trillion Dollars ! to put it into perspective … if a Millionaire came to a town of 1000 people, he could give each person a "Thousand Dollars", … a Billionaire could come into the town of 1000 and give each person a "Million Dollars", … a Trillionaire could come into a town of 1000 people and give each person a "Billion Dollars" … and repeat that process 15 times … "Bernie MADE OFF" <SP?> was audited 8 different times by the Govt. and they didn't find his treacherous faults. would a 9th time made anyone feel better, "My Point" is Bigger Govt. is not the solution. Bigger Govt. has a tendency to hurt small business, not big business, … and small business and the entrepreneur spirit is what have made this country great.

very sad,,, she is not a nice little girl at all and mom is a fat so and the men in her life are convicts and child molesters.. its awful i wont watdh the show it would upset me the child need to be taken awy and cared for properly she doesnt even see her dad..

  62. JOLENE WON MANY TROPHIS AND SHE S OKAY. SOME PEOPLE BITCH ABOUT SOMETHING THE KNOW NOTHING ABOUT.

  63. with all due respect to Honey Boo Boo, about 30-40 million watched Romney's speech. President Obama had over 40 million in 2008. Now if you said "Turtle Man" had more I might believe that.

  64. I think that the honey boo boo show is stupid! they are a bunch of DUMB hill billies! her whole family is fat and ugly.if I looked like that I sure as hell wouldn't be on tv.

  65. It seems more intellectually stimulating than the RNC. And more honest.

  68. Amy Tattoli-Steitz

I just can't believe the disgust and hatred for this family. Why? because they are different then you? Because they are overweight? Because it centers around a child? Not everyone is the same and as I stated earlier if anyone thinks the child is being exploited then you have to apply that to EVERY child star not just this one. I don't get it. Just don't watch it. Why does anyone have to attack these people?

  69. Don't you say nothing bad about Jessco White, he's my hero.

  70. I agree starting with Jo Ann's remarks. The one thing that I don't like about some of these southern states reality shows is that they seem to want to portray all people living in the South as dumb, stupid, ignorant and totally devoid of any proper upbringing. This is just my unasked for humble opinion. Mary L

I watch the show cause it makes me laugh. They r being themselves. This show won't change that. Heck it mite help them a lil cause they hve a lil money coming in.
I don't necessarily agree w pageants and they way the moms handle things but as long as the child is not being forced to do it and is hvin fun then what's the issue!?

Honey Boo Boo Child is honest??? Now I agree with you on the your opinion about the RNC that I agree with you on Jeanne but Honey Boo Boo Child Honest?? I don't think so its gross, disgusting and sad how any parent in there right mind does what these parents are doing to this child & the way she talks this kid she could use her mouth washed out with soap and water IMO! Then again so could some of the RNC to use there mouths washed out with soap…

TLC when it first came out was about teaching learning channel now its turn into this Crap that has nothing to do with teaching only making a buck how sad then so does the RNC they only think about themselves and how much more money they can suck out of middle class or anyone not as rich as them.

  74. I have watched the show, however I always end up changing it because some of their hygiene makes me want to vomit. They have no shame. On the othr hand I believe in living life according to how we choose. However, for this to be shown on national tv is embarrasing. They have no manners, gross hygiene, and allow for a child to act like a brat.

  75. A future? What kind of future is bad grammar bad education and bad manners? I guess her future is doomed. She will never get out of that lifestyle to better herself.

  76. Absolutely stupid show! I've seen parts of 2 shows and can't find any redeeming qualities in it! Also hate Toddlers and Tiaras! Any parent that puts a child in a beauty contest as a toddler or young child who can't make the decision for themselves is absolutely an awful parent who needs to lose custody of the child!

I think Honey Boo Boo is a spoiled child who needs a LONG Time Out. I do NOT watch this show and will NEVER watch it. Her parents need to go to classes to learn how to be parents!

  83. You must be joking. That family is so ridiculous that they should all be ashamed of themselves and TLC should be shot for putting them in any show, prime time or otherwise. Mom thinks that being obese is funny and adorable. They mud dive for fun. They are dirtier than Honey Boo Boo's pig.

  85. I really hate when parents exploit their children. Mostly their daughters.

  86. Considering all the RNC was about was mudd slinging and so was honey boo boo… I didn't watch either one! Couldn't be less interested!

  87. Amy,I agree with you 100 percent.I know people have there own opinion ,and I guess I'm not normal either, but GOD love's us all the same

  88. For heaven sake,if you don't like it don't watch it,remember GOD don't like ugly.

  89. TLC has some fairly strange shows on all the time…this one is just the red-neck version of the toddler beauty shows which are terrible and exploitive. I've discovered that TLC has a lot of shows that aren't about learning but they must have people who watch them. There are several on that network that are ridiculous. I just change channels and watch "Everybody Loves Raymond" as it's almost always on somewhere!

  90. If this claim is accurate, it goes to show you just how bad things really are in this country. There will be a lot of surprised people when the denial bubble breaks and reality flows into some peoples lives.

Wow, what a bunch of haters… Most of you would jump at the chance to be on T.V. and you'd most likely try to be something you're not and you'd get paid big bucks and not think anything of it. T.L.C. has done exactly what it expected to do, they put on a family that would spin people completely out of control. So many hateful comments on here about the child and the parents…. People that is what the remote is for but for now you all if you like it or not are just free advertising for the Honey Boo Boo show. *steps off her soap box and pours all of you a big glass of Haterade* LMAO.

  97. Please people you all are taking this show tooooooo serious. First of all the children are taking care of. The father is working at a regular job. There house is clean. They have plenty of food and the mother has started a diet and is loosing weight. She takes time with her children. As far as I am concerned they are a happy family well taken care of and what is NORMAL?

She watched it, so she could make a statement without recoil from you morons, such as 'how would you know if you didn't watch it?' I completely agree with her…they are disgusting incompetent people, bad parents, the child is a disrespectful brat, and to make a tv show that has no real purpose, other than to get ratings, is completely pointless, and just shows the sad realization of the dumbing down of America.

  100. Sara Pardey

Also, any parent that feeds their child a cocktail of mountain dew mixed with sugar, pixie sticks, or whatever, to make them 'preform better', needs a reality check, not a reality tv show…I'm sorry but I would prefer not to watch a program where the biggest highlight is how loud the morbidly obese mother can pass gas…

  102. They are crude but she loves her children, they love her and they have a fun with each other, let them be there are a lot of people who act in this manner they are not an isolated family!

  106. I cant even believe this show I watched once and sat there with my mouth wide open. But their are poeple out there like this I wish them the best hopfully they take the money and learn some manors.and learn to eat healthier.
