Honey Boo Boo Scores Better Ratings Than Republican National Convention

Marco Rubio stirred the crowd with a powerful speech, Clint Eastwood talked to an empty chair, and Mitt Romney accepted the GOP’s nomination for the President of the United States at the Republican National Convention last night. Still, the RNC couldn’t top TLC’s Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.

Yes, that’s right. When given the choice between watching the nation’s top politicians speak at the Republican National Convention and watching Honey Boo Boo and her self-proclaimed redneck family go mud wrestling, America chose Honey Boo Boo Child.

The Huffington Post reports that the new TLC show pulled in nearly 3 million viewers during last night’s episode. Fox News brought in a total of 7.7 million viewers but only 1.2 million when the RNC went up against Honey Boo Boo during the 10 pm slot.

The Hollywood Reporter writes:

“In the demo, Honey Boo Boo did even better. The half-hour series’ showing among adults 18-49 bested all other cable outings for the night — including coverage of the Republican National Convention — to pull a 1.3 rating.”

Did you watch Here Comes Honey Boo Boo last night? What about the RNC?

Both programs had a few enjoyable highlights. At the RNC, Clint Eastwood talked to an invisible President Obama who was sitting in an empty chair. On Honey Boo Boo, the former toddler in a tiara and her father Sugar Bear struggled to put together a baby crib.

Really, you couldn’t make a bad choice.
