Beyoncé’s CFDA Awards Speech — Reveals Mother’s Secret

Beyoncé gave a speech at the CFDA Awards ceremony. During her speech, Queen Bey dropped an enormous secret regarding her mother’s influence in her fashion success. For a moment, Beyoncé took the audience back to a time when Destiny’s Child was just coming on the scene.

According to Beyoncé, everything wasn’t glitz and glamour as far as endorsements were concerned. Likewise, Beyoncé notes that certain designers didn’t want to place their signature looks on “black, country, curvy gals.” If you know anything about mainstream fashion, it has kept to a specific look, no?

Well, as her CFDA speech continues, Beyoncé reveals that the first collection of Destiny’s Child outfits were created by her mother. She was responsible for sewing them all together. Essentially, Beyoncé’s mother created their look from scratch, according to the Lemonade artist. Given that special dash of hope, Queen Bey mentions that she knew, then, she couldn’t let her mother down.

Now, with all the fame and fortune that Beyoncé has acquired over the years, she explains that her mother is still instrumental to her fashion success. During her CFDA speech, Beyoncé says that her mother also designed her “wedding dress… prom dress… first CFDA award dress… first Grammy’s dress, and the list goes on and on and on.” You can watch Queen Bey’s speech in the video below.

Entertainment Weekly notes that Beyoncé thanked all of her designers and also referred to them as “fairy godmothers.” Queen Bey went so far as to call them therapists during certain moments of her life. Specifically, Beyoncé mentions as follows.

“I want to say thank you to every designer who works tirelessly to make people feel like they can write their own stories. Y’all are fairy godmothers, magicians, sculptors, and sometimes even our therapists. I encourage you to not forget this power you have or take it lightly. We have an opportunity to contribute to a society where any girl can look at a billboard or magazine cover and see her own reflection.

“Soul has no color. no shape, no form. Just like all your work it goes so far beyond what the eyes can see. You have the power to change perception, to inspire and empower, to show people how to embrace their complications and see the flaws and the true beauty that’s inside all of us.”

However, through it all, Beyoncé’s influential mother has impacted her life most of all, and it seems that she wanted to make that a focal point of her CFDA Awards speech.

Although Beyoncé took the audience on a reminiscent journey, she also brought them back to the present in a real-world view from someone who has made a career out of “being who you are.” During her career, Beyoncé hasn’t been one to take “no” for an answer regarding things she wanted or goals she needed to obtain. In her speech, Queen Bey thanks her mother for giving her that background and characteristic.

Beyoncé recognizes her mother as the person who taught her how to go the distance and take the necessary risks to achieve her dreams. Likewise, her mother has been instrumental in Beyoncé’s work ethic and independence. According to the Lemonade artist and fashion icon, her mother taught her what she knows about success methods, in that regard.

As as sidenote, you know probably know that there has been a lot of news coverage concerning Beyoncé and Jay Z’s relationship status. Regardless of its reality, Queen Bey’s husband and child were in the audience cheering her on as she was awarded the prestigious honor. According to Us Weekly, Beyoncé’s husband’s alleged “mistress,” Rachel Roy, was also in attendance.

However, the star-studded couple, Beyoncé and Jay Z, would not allow such perceived drama to ruin her night.
