Kylie Minogue Announced As Singapore Grand Prix Headlining Act, Performed At Queen Elizabeth’s 90th Birthday

Kylie Minogue will headline this year’s Singapore Grand Prix, according to Yahoo News. It has been confirmed that the Australian pop princess, along with the duo of Adam Lambert and Brian May, collectively known as Queen+Adam Lambert, will headline the show, with other musical guests to include a cappella group Pentatonix, Bastille, and KC and The Sunshine Band.

Kylie Minogue will headline the opening show on Friday, September 17, 2016, and Queen+Adam Lambert will take the stage the next day. The headlining act for the final day, Sunday, September 18, has yet to be announced.

Kylie Minogue is one of the key figures who has managed to dominate the international pop and dance circuit since 1988, the year she quit Neighbours, which is Australia’s longest-running soap.

When Kylie Minogue, now 47-years-old, left Neighbours in 1988, she was already a pop star. Since then, the “On A Night Like This” singer has made the leap from Australian soap opera sweetheart to pop queen and finally to screen queen. The show’s most successful export is now a worldwide superstar and has sold more than 80 million records. According to Official Charts, her second single “I Should Be So Lucky” went to No. 1 in the UK in 1988, and she went on to have seven UK No. 1 hits, including “Can’t Get You Out of My Head,” which sold seven million copies in 2001.

Despite Kylie Minogue’s small screen origins, acting has taken a back seat in recent years, although she teamed up with David Tennant for the festive special of Doctor Who in 2007. She has battled breast cancer and was a coach on The Voice UK in 2014.

Despite her challenges in previous years, this year has been a good one for Kylie Minogue for far, with the possible highlight being her engagement to Joshua Sasse, a 28-year-old model.

To add to her career highlights, Kylie Minogue performed at the Queen’s 90th birthday celebrations in May after having previously performed at Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee to celebrate the monarch’s 60-year-reign in 2012.

According to Pink News, Kylie Minogue performed for the Queen for her 90th birthday celebrations, where she joined stars like Katherine Jenkins, Beverley Knight, James Blunt, Andrea Bocelli, Alfie Boe, and Jess Glynne at the concert on May 15.

Kylie Minogue has been in the entertainment industry since 1979, but her journey towards becoming a global phenomenon began with her role in Neighbours, debuting her much-loved character of Charlene on April 17, 1986. Kylie’s role as Charlene Robinson made her a household name internationally and one of Australia’s most successful recording artists. If it wasn’t for her stint on Neighbours, things could have been very different for the Princess Of Pop.

Now 47, Kylie Minogue stole the nation’s hearts when she found on-screen romance with Scott Robinson, played by Jason Donovan. The day Scott and Charlene tied the knot on-screen remains one of the show’s best-loved and most memorable episodes, with a combined audience of 20 million viewers across Australia and the UK.

The “Kylie and Jason” public obsession reached fever pitch when the couple got together in real life and made a hit record, Especially For You. But superstardom beckoned for Kylie, and a new relationship with INXS frontman, the late Michael Hutchence, soon put an end to the Kylie and Jason fairy tale.

Kylie Minogue was awarded a Gold Logie in 1998 for her performance on the show and subsequently received an additional four awards, including in the Most Popular Actress category. Recently, Kylie Minogue reunited with her Neighbours co-stars to celebrate 30 years of the soap opera.

Neighbours turned 30 on March 18, 2016, and the crew marked the occasion with a special celebratory episode. Neighbours reached its milestone on March 18 with a number of big storylines planned to mark the occasion, including the return of 12 of its past characters. The iconic 1987 episode which saw Scott Robinson and Charlene Mitchell (played by Jason Donovan and Kylie Minogue respectively) tie the knot will also be repeated. Apart from Kylie Minogue, Neighbours made stars out of several actors, including Jason Donovan.

Another original cast member, Guy Pearce, now 48, had a four-year stint as Mike on Neighbours before hitting the big time. He has since appeared in hit films including L.A. Confidential, Memento, and The Hurt Locker. Guy will return to the big screen alongside Kylie in the new movie Flammable Children, a comedy film set in the 1975 suburban Australia.

Thirty years on, Neighbours is still going strong and broadcast to more than 50 countries around the world. Over the years, audiences have witnessed hundreds of characters that have moved in and out of the five houses featured in the soap opera. And although faces change regularly one thing remains the same: the nostalgic memory that long-term Neighbours fans have of Kylie Minogue’s outspoken tomboyish character who stole the show.
