Liam Hemsworth Reveals Why He And Miley Cyrus Split In 2013

For the first time, Liam Hemsworth was open to discussing the nature of his relationship with Miley Cyrus. Usually, the Hunger Games actor is private, especially about his relationship status, but over the past few weeks it’s been more than obvious that he and Cyrus have decided to reunite.

The news of their reunion came in January, when Miley was spotted celebrating the New Year in Australia with Liam’s family. Fans of the pairing lost their minds, but it wasn’t anything compared to what happened when the two announced that their engagement was off in 2013 after four years of dating. The two decided to split abruptly, and no one knew why — that is, until now.

Now that Liam and Miley are in a better place, the actor has decided to open up about the reason behind their split. He sat down for an interview with GQ Australia and said of the breakup, “Of course it was hard, man. But at the time we were going in different directions and it’s just what needed to happen. We were both super young and it was a good decision at the time—we both needed that.”

While the two were split up, it seems like they did a lot of growing on their own, so when they reunited they had changed and were ready for the serious nature of their relationship. Although Liam has denied that the engagement is back on, he did have this to say about his current relationship with Miley Cyrus:

“I guess when I feel something, then I just feel it and I go for it. I make my decisions about what’s going to make me happy, what I think is right and what I want to do—and I don’t worry too much outside of that.”

As for their current relationship status, Hemsworth agrees that it’s more than obvious and that, “People will figure it out, they already have… They’re not dumb.”

Although Hemsworth remains private about his relationship, he’s not exactly hiding it anymore. Over the weekend, Liam Hemsworth paid tribute to the late boxing champion Muhammad Ali via Instagram, by using a photo of he and Miley with the champion.

He captioned the photo with the following.

Cyrus used the same photo as Liam with the caption, “RIPCHAMP.”

Although the two haven’t made a public appearance with each other for a while, that hasn’t stopped Cyrus from hanging out with the Hemsworths in her private time. The last time Miley was spotted with Liam’s family was on June 2, hanging at Soho House in Malibu. At the time, she was spotted with Liam’s famous brother Chris Hemsworth.

Miley Cyrus’ father, Billy Ray Cyrus, has also gushed about the couple in the past. In fact, he’s so happy that Miley and Liam are together again that he offered to officiate the wedding, whenever that happens. At the time, he told the Today Show the following.

“They’re really happy together right now. They know if they need a preacher, they’ve found one.”
