Bronx girl Trina Thompson sues college because she can’t find a job

What an idiot!!! There are IT jobs all over the place. Perhaps this idiot doesn't quite know that a degree is not an offer of employment. You then have to go out and show what you've learned and SELL yourself to potential employeers. Or get a job with the government. They've got postings for Information Technology positions all over the net.

as an African American man, why it that the main questions are is “is she black?” It sound to me that we label black with people with anything that is a “hand out”, “freebie”, “welfare”, heck I could go on. NOW, it is very STUPID for her to go and sue a college (which is unheard of) and to pay $70,000? She was better off going to NYU or Fordham. Listen, to sweeten the pot, a 2.7 GPA is not icing on the cake. Of course the student with the 4.0 is going to get ‘special’ treatment. But the question of “is she black” really burns me up. Oh, who am I, a professional naval officer with an Associate, Bachelor, and now working on his master degree..

hey im black male, who got a 3.7 in high school and 1700 on the sat.I took over 7 honors/Ap courses in a predomenantly all white public high school(based on race percentages, in my highschool 2% in the entire school were black and of that 2%, I would say that atleast 1% dropped out). I got into college the same way whites do. I hate it when people, who don’t know a person’s situation just use the affermative action clause as a reason to group all blacks for getting into college. Right now I’m going to be a junior in college majoring in economics(bs, not ba) with a 3.3 average. And if you wanna know, I was waitlisted and rejected at several colleges with my stats(and im not talking about any ivy leauge schools, regular public, private schools).Luckly I never really had to try that hard in school because I would still get good grades. There were no free handouts passed my way, so I hate it when white kids always say blacks only get into college because they are black. Its true in certain situations, blacks do get favorable treatment when it comes to applying to some schools(namely the ivy leauge schools), but nowadays, most blacks get into school based on merit. Affermative action was no doubt used in the early stages of the 20 centuary. But, today statistacally blacks are near par when it comes to grades, sat and/or act with whites. This girl sounds to me like she had a rough life and did’nt always get the best direction in life. Imagine if you were in her situation growing up, in what im guessing a youth filled with gangbangers, drugs and a terrible educational system. I know if I grew up in a situation like that, I really don’t know if I would have succeeded as I’m doing right now. Thankfully for me, I grew up in a middle class neighbourhood with a family that supported my strengths. All I ask is, before judging her, think about her situation. Anyways before I go to sleep(its 5.50 in the morning right now, don’t know what I’m still doing up), if a job position came up and there was one opening left say in a financial firm and it came down between her getting the job and me. And she got the job, I would definatly go patrick batemen on her. Plain and simple she should have done better in college(but then again, we don’t no what misfortunes haunt her) , don’t whine about getting a job with the resume you have right now, and with this economic climate she should continue with further education(it will pay dividends later on in her life when it comes to pay salary). And if all else fails, if I was advising her, at her age she should find a sugar daddy asap. And with that I’m out………..

What’s on your mind……The Press fails to acknowledge that Monroe College is not a real College. It is more like a trade school pretending to be a College. There is no standard for acceptance. Anybody is able get in the school. Their advertisement is all over the subways and in low-income neighborhoods where a majority of minorities live. They like sales people trying make a quick buck. I attended this school about ten years ago and they seem to give students higher grades then they deserve. That doesn’t really prepare you for the real world. Many people might find this to be a ridiculous lawsuit but I think this woman has a case here.

i’m sorry you are taking this to ‘is she black’. As one can see from a link in the comments here she is an attractive black woman. What difference does that make here. In interviews she comes across as lacking in grammar and one would assume from her comments not well educated. However, she must have worked hard for her 2.75 with the background education she was challenged with.

That said, she is being unrealistic in assuming there are easy to grab jobs out there. I do feel she would have been easily misled by any institution. I hope that is not the case.

She is getting a lot of advertising from her lawsuit though and perhaps these 15 min of fame will fall favourably upon her shoulders.

If she has been treated fairly in the expectations then woe is her plight from here on out for I doubt anyone would wish to hire someone so quick to go to court. I do not defend her on this account but I do feel she is getting ripped apart beyond what is fair.
