Fans can watch the Mexico vs. Uruguay football match live online and see if El Tri can steal a win in its 2016 Copa America opening match against an opponent missing their best player.

The teams will meet Sunday at 8 p.m. from the University of Phoenix Stadium in Phoenix, Arizona, in the opening match of the 2016 Copa America. The match will be a test for Uruguay, who will be without Barcelona striker Luis Suarez as he recovers from a hamstring injury suffered in the Copa del Rey final against Sevilla.

Mexico will likely benefit from his absence, though El Tri isn’t reveling in his injury.

“Personally, it makes me sad that Luis Suarez isn’t available because I believe you prepare to compete with the best and hopefully he recovers soon because it would be extraordinary to compete against him and the best Uruguay possible,” Juan Carlos Osorio told ESPN.

For Mexico, the goal is simple in the Copa America Centenario — to reach the end.

“Our objective is to reach the final because playing finals is very difficult and winning them is extremely difficult,” Osorio. “If we aren’t in the last four of the competition, I’ll take it as a real blow. I’d be in debt not just with the Mexican people, but with this group of players and myself.”

Osorio said Uruguay will be a difficult opponent, especially given their strength both at defense and attacking. He hinted to ESPN that El Tri may play with three central defenders, and Osorio hasn’t been wedded to any particular style in the team’s lead-up to the 2016 Copa America, as he used four different opening formations in seven matches.

Fans who watch the Mexico vs. Uruguay football match live online could see an El Tri team with the best chance in more than a decade to reach the final. Mexico hasn’t reached the championship match since 2001, but come into this year’s tournament on a hot streak and are among the title contenders. Mexico has won eight matches in a row, including a 1-0 victory over defending champion Chile on Monday.

For Uruguay, the match may be an uphill battle. Not only are they missing their top player, but the team will also have to play in Phoenix, which is something of a home-away-from-home for El Tri.

“The objective is always the same,” said Uruguay defender Jose Maria Gimenez told MLSSoccer.com. “We don’t want to be favorites even for a moment. We’re preparing for a Mexico home crowd at the stadium that will be rooting against us.”

The team is also taking the loss of Suarez in stride.

“We knew from early on that we wouldn’t have him,” said midfielder Egidio Arevalo Rios. “We’re convinced still that even without him we will be capable.”

But fans who watch the Medico vs. Uruguay football match live online could see a sluggish match from both sides. This weekend has seen record high temperatures in the Arizona city, with outdoor practices for both teams forced to move inside to the air-conditioned University of Phoenix Stadium. Temperatures are expected to top 117 degrees on Sunday, and even under the retractable roof of the stadium they could top 80 degrees at game time.

“It won’t benefit us or them,” said Mexico defender Jorge Torres Nilo. “It’s not an advantage either way.”
