Robin Roberts Says Goodbye To ‘GMA,’ Promises To Return

Fans of Good Morning America were expecting to say goodbye to Robin Roberts on Friday but the morning show host had to say her farewells a little earlier than expected.

Roberts said goodbye to Good Morning America today in order to return home to care for her ailing mother.

Roberts said:

“Our beloved mother has had some health issues recently and it’s gotten to the point that Sally-Ann (Roberts’ older sister) and I need to get home, so I’m leaving a day early for that.”

Roberts was set to leave the show on Friday for an extended medical leave. The talk show host announced in June that she was diagnosed with MDS and needed to take some time off to recover.

Roberts left the show with some inspirational words, saying:

“There’s a point that really resonates with me when I think about this time of my life. Life provides losses and heartbreak for all of us, but the greatest tragedy is to have the experience and miss the meaning…. I am determined not to miss that meaning, because through it I have discovered that I have been given many gifts, gifts that will carry me through this difficult time.”

Her fellow stars all wished her a tearful goodbye, but before things got too said Roberts promised that would be returning to Good Morning America as soon as she could.

Roberts addressed the entire staff on the show, saying : “I WILL be back, just so you know … As soon as I can.”
